| The thing is that many Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, GM, etc. cars are made outside the United States, using Mexican or Canadian workers. Many Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, BMW, etc. are made right here in the USA using hard working American laborers. By the way the Federal Government awarded the tanker bid to Northrop-Grumann, a California based company founded in the 1930's and listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

| That's very sentimental mit...but the fact is we are a global economy. American cars are getting better BECAUSE of toyota and honda. Toyota hasn't always been quality and not every car they make it good nor is every car GM makes bad. Your GM car may be a great one and that's good. CR looks at "the big picture" and talks to the owners of the cars for their feedback. It is what it is. The numbers don't lie. I also agree with Bubba. Toyota and Honda build their cars IN the U.S.A. employing AMERICAN workers. Where was that Ford you are driving made?

| I drive an '07 Nissan Frontier (after trading-off a '99 Frontier, bought new in '98). I couldn't have been (or be) happier with either one. And you know what? They were both built right here in Tennessee, USA. The engines were built in Japan, but the body and tranny were made here, put together by country-boys like me. Before '98, I drove Chevy S-10/full size pickups or Chevy/GMC Blazers since '74. Yep, the things were in the shop for substantial repairs on a near-regular basis. Meanwhile, if they were out of warrenty, I was either on-foot or paying for a rental car for transportation. When my '96 S-10's engine blew (for no reason... I've always done all the basic maintenance myself), I knew it was time to try something different. I bought a new engine, had the shop drop it in, then traded (I was money ahead doing this) for a Nissan. Heaven knows, I buy American every chance I get, but automotive issues are a whole 'nuther story.

| Most all of these newer cars are pretty good vehicles. Heck, we never used to expect more than maybe 60-70 K before we needed to be looking to trade. I have put over 300K miles on most of my vehicles anymore, and still not afraid to run them more if I have to. |

| Well. Hubby drives a Ford Focus. Piece of Sh!t. Honestly. I had to drive it to the airport today. Trying to merge into 70-mph traffic on the interstate was a real nuisance, if not death defying. There's just no guts. A 4-cylinder. He likes it. I all but refuse to drive it, till there are 4 of us from the office going to the airport. That's the biggest car. I'll drive a VW any day. Ford does make a good pickup, but I'm not happy with the 4WD tranny. Damn thing. Right after it went out of warranty, too. I guess when I sell it, I'll do it in the spring or summer. God knows the 4WD won't work!!

| I've used my 4WD more this year Muffie, than I have in probably 10 years. Sure came in handy with all of this dang ice, snow, and mud. Of course, I live in the boondocks, not the city like you do. You want a real "shit your pants" ride, hit the afterburners on an F-4, then sit back and wave at the radar! |
