As Barack Obama enters the final stages of the fight for the Democratic presidential nomination, he is preparing to detach the core voters of John McCain, the likely Republican nominee, with the same ruthless determination with which he has peeled off Hillary Clinton’s supporters.

The scene is set for a tussle between the two candidates for the support of some of the sharpest and most independent minds in politics. Obama is hoping to appoint cross-party figures to his cabinet such as Chuck Hagel, the Republican senator for Nebraska and an opponent of the Iraq war, and Richard Lugar, leader of the Republicans on the Senate foreign relations committee...

I think that's why so many republicans will vote for him - he will consider and nurture those things that are important to most........... no matter the party. Republicans are usually great military leaders - I think GW didn't listen to his leaders. He's listening now I assume but it's way too late and too much damage has been done to the party as a whole due to his bull headedness.

I can't think of a better way to lead a country than to lead with ALL points of views. Obama just rocks and keeps gettin better!! All I have left to do is my caucus........ can't wait till 7pm on Tuesday!!

After I read that, it almost makes Obama sound like an Independent than a Democrat. Posting Republicans and Democrats both is usually what Independents do.

Texas caucus hardball

The Dallas Morning News gets hold of Clinton caucus "training materials," in which supporters are instructed to fight for procedural control of caucuses.

The materials say in part, "DO NOT allow the supporter of another candidate to serve in leadership roles."

It goes on to say, "If our supporters are outnumbered, ask the Temporary Chair if one of our supporters can serve as the Secretary, in the interest of fairness.

"The control of the sign-in sheets and the announcement of the delegates allotted to each candidate are the critical functions of the Chair and Secretary. This is why it is so important that Hillary supporters hold these positions."

Some of the moments on the ground in Nevada showed how crucial technical control can be, particularly when -- there, as expected in Texas -- nobody has any idea what the rules are. Really makes you love the caucus process.

Makes it sound like they want their people in those positions so that they can cheat and get the results they want!

Not everyone is a blind faith believer.

Hillary Clinton has been trying to make a point about Barack Obama that deserves one last careful look before Tuesday's probably decisive Democratic primaries: If Obama truly intends to unite America across party lines and break the Washington logjam, then why has he shown so little interest or aptitude for the hard work of bipartisan government?

This is the real "Where's the beef?" about Obama, and it still doesn't have a good answer. He gives a great speech, and he promises that he can heal the terrible partisan divisions that have enfeebled American politics over the past decade. This is a message of hope that the country clearly wants to hear.

But can he do it? The record is mixed, but it's fair to say that Obama has not shown much willingness to take risks or make enemies to try to restore a working center in Washington. Clinton, for all her reputation as a divisive figure, has a much stronger record of bipartisan achievement. And the likely Republican nominee, John McCain, has a better record still.

"The authentic Barack Obama? We just don't know. The level of uncertainty is too high," one Democratic senator told me last week. He noted that Obama hasn't been involved in any "transformative battles" where he might anger any of the party's interest groups. "If his voting record in the past is the real Barack Obama, then there isn't going to be any bipartisanship," this senator cautioned.

Ya know I gotta say this........... WHY is it required to be devisive in order to be a uniter? Is that political jargon?

Obama has proven himself in the ghettos uniting people for voting and lifting themselves out of poverty. He has led the way to hope for many - before he was in politics. He learned what "service" was as a child with his mother in 3rd world countries. What is it he needs to do to be credable at this point?

Hell he has united more voters and had larger turnouts as I see it. The people are speaking and he seems to be one of the few listening. I'm more than willing to take a chance rather than be faced with more "experience" from Washington.

Bubba - down here as far as I have been able to tell - you go in, you sign your name, and you have done the caucus. It's a real cut and dry process. It just usually doens't get much turnout cause folks don't want to hang around till the polls close - to go back and do it again. That's why I voted last week.

It does altho control 1/3 of the delagates........... so it is a very important thing this time around due to the closeness of the race. I have never caucused before (didn't feel the need since it was pretty much cut and dry) It's not that Texas doesn't care - we just never had much choice by the time the other states had thier primaries. I think this time is gonna be different. I only have to go after 7 pm. Trick is tho - there doesn't seem to be set times on closing. I have been told "whenever they feel like closing = when the crowds thin" Being they have never had a crowd - it otta be interesting!! I think my caucus place is different than my voting place but I'll let ya know. They didn't have any ifo last week on the web. It said "info to follow - look for updates" I WILL find it tho - without a doubt!

Well Bubba - the polling and caucus is in the same place. The foggy issue is when it opens. Caucus begins at 7:15 OR when the last voter is done. I think there in lies the issue with folks hangin around. It doesn't list a close time - but then again it's Texas. We kinda just roll with the flow most times - I'm hoping folks will stick around but I know I'll be there.
