| some of us see the larger picture and the workers didn't cause it. Period. Gets to the point where I sometimes want everyone to leave that wasn't here in 1776. (I know, unfair to the Natives.) There were no legals or illegals then. Just workers that came for their betterment. Now there are rules -- rules that historically were written due to issues of race and nationalilty. "Chinese exclusion act" was the name of one -- just to make that point. The source of the jobs -- jobs that overlook little things like illegal or legal -- unless needed to fire someone -- that's where the problem starts. And those jobs are managed by very non-hispanics. Many on this board don't see that -- or would rather overlook it, in my view. Arrest the management of Excel -=- the 'illegal' problem would clear up very fast. |

| Here they go again! Looks like Brazil Wants to be the major Meat Packer in the US! After buying Swift, then National, today they buy SMithfield!! Smithfield selling beef ops to Brazilian company Associated Press SMITHFIELD, Va. - Smithfield Foods Inc. said today it is selling its beef operations for $565 million to Brazil's JBS SA, the second deal in two days for JBS which is becoming the largest meat processor in the United States. The deal comes a day after National Beef Packing Co., the nation's fourth-largest beef processor, said it is being acquired by JBS for cash and stock deal worth $560 million. Smithfield Foods is the fifth-largest U.S. beef producer. "While outperforming the industry, our beef group has nevertheless been a relatively minor player, as we have been unable to grow through acquisition or justify building a new plant in this adverse environment," C. Larry Pope, Smithfield's president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "It makes sense to exit the beef business at this time." Smithfield shares rose $1.50, or 5.4 percent, to $29.38 in morning trading Wednesday. Combined with JBS' $225 million acquisition of Greeley, Colo.-based Swift Foods Co. last year, the National Beef and Smithfield Foods deals would make JBS the largest meat processor in the U.S., ahead of Wichita-based Cargill Meat Solutions. On Tuesday, Kansas City-based National Beef said JBS, the world's largest beef processor, will pay National Beef members about $465 million in cash and $95 million in JBS shares. Under the deal, which still requires regulatory approval, JBS will assume an undisclosed amount of National Beef's debt. JBS directors approved both deals Tuesday, according to minutes of a board meeting posted on JBS' Web site. In a news release, National Beef said its president, Tim Klein, will become president and chief operating officer of the joint National Beef/JBS-Swift beef operations. "Being able to diversify through JBS will put our company in a position to compete long term in an increasingly competitive environment," said Steve Hunt, chief executive officer of U.S. Premium Beef, the majority owner of National Beef. "Our producer owners and other producers who market cattle through USPB will now have a more geographically diversified company with multiple locations to deliver the high-quality cattle they produce for our value-added programs." Wesley Batista, CEO of JBS USA Inc., said National Beef would give the company greater access to markets in North America and the Pacific Rim. JBS had $11.9 billion in revenue in 2007 with operations in Brazil, Argentina, the U.S. and Australia. The minutes of Tuesday's JBS board meeting also said the Sao Paulo-based company plans to acquire Australian meat company Grupo Tasman for about $150 million cash. |

Some good points Old Timer. ETA: For me it is so much less about illegal and more about lack of respect. I know lots of illegal immigrants that are productive members of society and I feel like if they are good citizens they why not make it easier for them to be citizens. It's the lack of respect that many (gasp, even white people!) people have that really makes me sad. |

| Here's where I see a lack of respect....... The leaders of the Latino community NOT holding those who bring that community down accountable. Instead of stepping up and saying there is a problem, they would rather play the "poor us" game and try to rationalize it. If a large portion of your population, or demographic, are causing problems for the others, wouldn't you go after them? There are scores of illegal aliens here who are hard working, highly productive members of the community. They obey the laws and actually try to make their, and their families, lives better. On the flip side, there are many who are exact oppisites. They collect large amounts of welfare, steal identities, do n ot follow even the basic laws of driving etc. Now, if the leaders would target those people, chastize them and point out that they bring shame and undo pressure upon the rest, then you would see some results. Instead, the leaders embrace them and make excuses. This makes the leaders unreliable and untrustworthy.

| Today is March 6th.. on this day in 1836, on the final day of a 13 day siege, 3000 mexican soldiers under the command of General Santa Anna finally overran the 150 rag tag volunteers defending the Alamo garrison in San Antonio de Bexar. Amogst the dead were American heroes Lt. Col William Travis, Jim Bowie and former Congressman David Crockett, known to his Tennessee Volunteers as 'Davy'. The moral of this on this post is... If its important to you, youll defend it with your life. And Me being from Texas and all.. Ill start recognizing 'Cinco De Mayo' (the mexican armies defeat of the French) as a 'holiday' as soon as Mexico starts celebrating and recognizing the Texas Armies defeat of the Mexican Army at San Jacinto at the hands of General Sam Houston. |
