I pay taxes on my income or Base Pay. You know that you were military. I am in a special situation being in the military. If I live on base I am given a house to live in as a benefit. NO tax on that. If I live off base I am given a housing allowance...and you are right no tax because it's not considered income. My pay is public, you can look it up on any website.

My base pay is pretty low. It's about $48,060 this year. That's taxable. I also make $12,960 a year housing allowance (per 67801 zipcode) that is non taxable. I make $3528 per month for a food allowance (non taxable) and $5400 special duty pay. (taxable) I get $550 clothing allowance (non taxable) once a year. So out of just under 70K I pay taxes on about 70% of it. The non taxed benefits are part of the benefit of being in the military. This year with bonuses and such I will surpass about 120K with 90K of it being taxed.

Damn, wish I was young enough to join up! I think I got a whole $100 a month for hazardous duty pay to go on top of the peanuts we got for pay.

Tax income by the US Govt has actually increased since the taxcuts have been enacted.Lets just man up and admit you liberals are terrible at math, the fact of the matter is that the majority of taxes are taken not by the poor or the middle class like liars of the left like to spooge all over you, it comes from the top 50% of taxpayers. Not to mention 20% of Americans who work are net receivers not net payers of taxes. That means little Mary and her 3 kids earning 25k a year pays no taxes yet receives 5000 or so back every year from seperate different little tax incentives.
