Let me ask you a question. What are you doing to make your city better? Whining doesn't help. Complaining doesn't change anything. Get out there and get involved. I bet half the people with the biggest opinions about why Dodge sucks aren't involved in anything in the community. You can't expect it to change without the people who care getting involved. You can't be heard if all you do is complain on a message board anonymously. Do something. Quite the bellyaching and do something.

Bubba - this is going to sound trite - but, the answer is -

Go ask them personally why they are not accomplishing the things you expect. If you get less than a good answer - go to a Commission meeting and ask the question again. If that still doesn't work, determine what you can do to change the course of the issue you're passionate about - talk to those who do influence the elected official, become active on a board or committee that will effect the change you desire. If none of these fit, then start your own wave and be persistent until the change you want is implemented, or - you find an improved solution.

I follow these exact steps - and anyone who says it's BS, is the one who is sitting on the sidelines and just likes to complain. Change occurs when we make it happen. But we have to accept responsibility for the position(s) we take whenever we're in front of the public. Most of us would rather be the sniper than ever risk taking the bullet.

Do we need to list our community involvement credentials when we complain on here? It seems a little presumptuous of you to think that the people on here complaining aren't involved in making the community better. I'm involved plenty, and thats WHY I bitch, cause I care about what goes on in this town.

It's the ones that don't care, don't push or hope for a better Dodge that are the ones contributing, by their complacency.

A lot of the complaining that I see here is from folks that wrote the letters and attended the meetings only to be ignored and get nowhere.

No one is asking you to be complacent. Writing letters is great. Getting involved is super. Finding a positive attitude to keep going is needed. Actually, it does help me deal with constant complaining when I know the people doing it are doing more than that. I don't need a list of involvement but it sure is nice to hear of what people are doing to help instead of just hearing what is wrong.

One of the other guys in the local dart league and I recently went to Omaha to represent Dodge City in a NATIONAL tournament. We shot some excellent darts, and came away with FIRST place in the Mens Cricket Doubles. For us, this seemed like somewhat of an achievement, and we spoke to many many people there and told them that Dodge City was a growing community and a decent place to live. So, when we came back, glowing with pride, I contacted the Globe and asked them if they could give us a couple of column inches. Sadly, it seems the story of 2 working class white English speaking Dodge City boys is not of interest to them. I was told that out victory, putting Dodge City on the map in darting terms if nothing else, was "of no interest to the people of Dodge City".

As for the Brit thing, I'm leaving it well alone.....!!!
