Pentagon Admits Mistaken Arms Shipment

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon announced Tuesday that the United States mistakenly shipped to Taiwan four electrical fuses designed for use on intercontinental ballistic missiles, but has since recovered them.

The error is particularly disturbing, officials said, because of its indirect link to nuclear weaponry and because of the sensitivity of U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, which China regularly denounces as provocative. The Defense Department said an investigation of the incident is under way.

At a news conference, Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne said the misshipped items were four electrical fuses for nose cone assemblies for ICBMs. He also said they were delivered to Taiwan in 2006 and had been sent instead of helicopter batteries that had been ordered by Taiwan.

This from the article:

"Taiwan, which split from China amid civil war in 1949, potentially is the most sensitive issue in U.S.-China relations. Beijing claims Taiwan as its own and has threatened to attack should the self-governing island make its de facto independence formal. Washington has hinted that it would go to war to protect Taiwan."

Settle down Dali Llama ....our troops are a little busy right now.

I saw this yesterday and all I thought was "DAMN ITS SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY"....WTF ? Since 9/11 it seems its one catastrophic event after another.

As I thought about it tho.... I decided altho the incident might be new, there is nothing new in the idiocy of our government. It just gets reported now...but then its sorta like when our LEO's stop a vehicle full of illegal contraband. For every one that gets stopped (speeding or improper equipment) dozens or more are smarter and get thru just by obeying the law.

So for every fubar that gets exposed ...how many do not?

Not just our government tho. How stupid is the Chinese government... for not letting a bunch of monks have a peaceful march......... before a Olympic event no less.

I don't know what boycotting that event would cause but should we or shouldn't we....?. Any thoughts ??

I got kinda off thread.... but one thing leads to another........lol

Damn sure don't want the Pentagon administering the health care.
Wonder if they used the Post Office for the shipment?

I don't want any republican government administering it for sure. They want the government to fail so they muck it up so bad it has no real chance.
