| One of the great benefits at the job I have is we DON'T pay Social Security. We have Social Security Replacement. What I would pay in FICA and the amount my employer matches goes into an account with my name on it. I am free to invest it as I see fit. I currently have a decent nest egg. I think one of the good benefits of the program, since I don't have any dependents, is that if I die all the the money I have will go to my mother or whoever I choose. If I were paying Social Security that money would be gone. Another good thing, when the stock market is down, I'm buying low every two weeks. When the stock market is going well my accounts reflect it. Pretty nice program. |

| "You think SS is bad now...wait until the BO/Clinton connection start paying SS to illegals....Wonder how that will work?" Nice jump. where did this come from? Thanks for baiting the crowd. Perhaps ther is a Fox News quote that backs up this statement? |

| Why is being concerned about SS whining?

| Yeah!! Since I paid into SS (double) for over 40 years, I would like to get a little back now that I am getting older and not making as much money as most people! It totally pisses me off that someone who has not even paid into the system, and is ILLEGALLY here anyway, can draw on my hard earned "savings"! Sorry, I have to side with AOO on this one!! |

| I found this and it says u can't unless you are a minister or hold certain jobs. Article: Withdrawing from Social Security Can I withdraw from Social Security? The demise of Social Security in recent years has prompted many Americans to wonder whether they can withdraw from Social Security and set up their own retirement account in place of Social Security. Unfortunately, Americans do not have the option to withdraw from the Social Security system. The only exceptions to this would be those employed in a certain type of government job or ordained or licensed ministers. Even then, the only reason to opt out of the system would be a conscientious objection to government welfare. We do not recommend withdrawal for government workers or ministers because most people are not disciplined enough to put any money aside as an alternative, especially if they live on a low income.

| I'm surprised that hudstud's job allows him to waiver Social Security. The whole idea behind Social Security was that it collected from all workers regardless (except a few named professions), so that everybody would be affected the same and there wouldn't be as much record keeping necessary. Can you imagine what a mess it would be if they kept track of how much everybody invested and paid out only that much? I dunno about you, but I'm not so trusting of the government's record-keeping abilities....
