Social Security

Since I am a member in good standing of AARP... I am troubled about the news regarding SS and Medicare..

So I was curious bout the government dipping into the funds and I found this.
I knew they did it but ....I thought they always paid it back into the fund.... I really did ..... gawd !!!!!! I R a dingbat.

What's in a 'surplus'?
The U.S. figures its annual bottom line by including all tax revenues - including taxes that can only be used to pay Social Security benefits. If revenues fall short, the government has customarily borrowed from Social Security. ( I guess the bozos think what is paid into it is just free money for their dipping asses)

Here's the math behind the Congressional Budget Office prediction: (check out the date on the page....Oi vey

$153 billion = Total budget surplus
$162 billion = Off-budget surpluses*
$9 billion = Shortfall

*Includes Social Security trust funds as well as the net cash flow of the Postal Service

Here is one page I found. (Check out the date.)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This year's federal budget surplus has plunged to $153 billion because of the nation's economic doldrums and the Bush administration's tax cut, meaning the federal government will have to cover $9 billion of spending by dipping into Social Security, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projected Tuesday.

CNN.com - CBO: Social Security funds needed to balance books - August 29, 2001

We didn't even have a war going on yet and they were already gonna have to dip......

Its time for revolution............

Sad thing is ...most people blame it on us geezers cause we finely get a "free check". God Forbid...

Blame the right abusers dammit.

I gotta up my Zoloft....

I'm not that far off from SS myself. After paying in for 50 years I'm going to be a bit pissed if there is nothing for me.

What has me scratching my head (besides fleas)...Is who decided that the funds for the security of the elderly and disabled, could be used for anything other than what we the people, have deducted from our paychecks by government decree??

I would go research it, but it would just depress me more and it is too late.

That's why we need to PRIVATIZE social security!!! A portion of the money you pay in over your lifetime goes into an account for YOU earning interest for YOU!

Didn't Bush campaign for SS reform by privatizing it...and wasn't it killed by the Dems?

The problem with the Texas plan going national is that eventually you would have a majority of working Americans going into retirement without depending on the federal gov't to take care of them. When the federal gov't loses that power and money...well that doesn't sit well with them. The Dem voting base is partially made up of people that depend on the gov't to take care of them...they will not give this up easily despite privitization being a better option than taxing people out of existence....

You think SS is bad now...wait until the BO/Clinton connection start paying SS to illegals....Wonder how that will work?

Ironic how Democrats claim to be “progressive” and yet they oppose reform and want to stay with failing government programs.

From the USA Today article;

Quote:
In 1980, labor unions and some traditionally liberal Democrats provided mighty opposition. They considered taxpayer-fed Big Government programs the only secure ones, to the exclusion of other options....

Get a job with the railroad. Them and some other industries do not participate in Social Security. They take care of it all themselves.
