I agree....I read somewhere that anwar is several million acres and the footprint we would leave is like 1000 acres and the result would be LOTS of oil.

WHO keeps us from drilling in ANWAR? (Besides the tree huggers?)

If it would help our country why do people vote against it? Is 1000 acres of land not being messed up worth our national security and risk to our economy? Some dems think so.

Army you surprise me.

You of all people ! You always say that folks should be responsible for their own actions and in my mind responsibility includes conservation.
We being one of the most wasteful nations on earth do not try to limit our trips to the store, or run to every little whim, because its boreing at home...cant eat at home...run to the fast food etc etc.... Kids can't ride school buses, gotta have 2 or 3 cars going the same damn direction.(sigh)

Im not talking about going to work. Can't help that. But just stopping at a store on your way home and make that the trip of the day.
Its fuc*ed up...

So instead of being responsible for our home (planet) lets just go rip up another plot of land so we can continue our lifestyle. I don't care if its just one acre... We as a society have to wake up....and if we don't start saying NO to ourselves and to our children.... well to make a long story short... see Soylent Green and welcome to ancient Rome....

Its already bad enough that our kids and grandkids and their kids will be paying this debt our nation is in... but we don't care as long as we are living in the style that we have became accustomed too.

How many warnings do we need before we wake up and find out we are not an affluent nation anymore... oh never mind, too late.

Conservation? LOL I washed the 'stang today and spent an hour driving around town with no particular place to go...just enjoying the day and burning up some fossil fuel...

You wanna worry about the debt our kids and grandkids will have to incur then you should get on the side of the Republicans and push for privatized retirement accounts instead of the gov't fiasco called social security. That's probably one of the best things you can do. Walking to the store once a week instead of driving may be a personal thing you do to feel good but the bottom line is you don't make a difference. If it makes you feel good then that's ok though.

Also we could take all the money we waste on pork projects, supporting illegal immigrants, military waste spending, welfare graft etc and subsidize some mass public transportation...

It's really not about not having enough oil. We have plenty, and we can get plenty. The problem is that Wall Street figures the price and the oil companies control the flow. If the nation were to have the same gas everywhere, that would cut costs but we don't. Different states put different standards on what and how the gas is refined. Then different counties in the states put even more standards on it, therefore making the refining process even more costly. If the oil companies really wanted to build more refineries, they would. But that is not good business.

It's not good business because certain groups and gov't regulations have made it almost impossible for them to build more refineries.

You are right somewhat......almost impossible but not impossible. If they wanted to build them, they would. Notice that when a refinery gets damaged to the point of rebuilding one....it gets rebuilt. I know, I am simplifying things but the point is still the same. If we NEEDED the oil in Anwar......we would have it. Now, I am not against going and getting it and I think the environmentalists blow it way out of purportion (sic) and the government uses it as a sound bite and partisan issue.

Gas is gas is gas! Refineries make one product that ships to a multitude of distributors. The only difference is sometimes a fuel additive, ie- Phillips 66 may use one additive, while Mobil uses another. These are the only thing that may make the fuel unique to a certain brand.

I may be wrong but I remember something about California having different standards for every county, therby needing different additives or things taken out of all the gas regardless of who distributes it.
