I just heard on the news that the Arkansas City Police Chief is concerned about the very real problem of underage drinkng in that community of 11,000, stating that it "has led to an increase in assaults, rapes and various crimes." They held a town hall meeting tonght to inform the public about the problem and "enlist their help to put a stop to this trend". Thirty people attended!

That is more than you can get in DC. No one cares unless it affects them. I have worked in community service agencies for 20+ years and there is too much apathy.

It's a great idea....But I doubt if the Chief of Police, the commissioners or any other of the city leaders REALLY want to hear about the problems of our city. Just like the city commissioners....they talk about everything but our problems...ILLEGALS and CRIME and fail to address the issue. We can talk to the chief of police all we want but he only has his good men enforce the laws..not make them. The weak ass leaders, do nothing unless it benefits them, leaders we have in this town aren't going to do ANYTHING to make the town safer for Joe Taxpayer. I saw, read or heard something recently that said Leader is the wrong word to use for the people we "hire" ( I am guilty of calling them leaders also).

We have a mind set that excuses the actions of leaders and what we need is a mind set of an employer.

If you don't live up to the expectations of the persons that hired you...then we will do what employers do..... Verbal warning, Written Warning, suspension, and then fired.

Then again, it almost takes an act of congress to fire a government employee from local on up....

You hire people to lead if the job is a "leadership" position. Leaders make decisions, follow up on them and find a way to enforce them. CEO's are hired, leaders. They either lead their company to profit or loss. (simplification) but management is LEADERSHIP.

Does ANYONE on here think our commissioners have our best interest at heart? They are leading ...leading us down the wrong path.

Wouldn't it be GREAT if people who have, integrity, vision, leadership and honesty could actually cut through the BS and get elected?

As long as there are enough people out there who vote based on a single issue, believe every piese of trash that comes through their e-mail or refuses to do some research on their own... well, we'll keep getting garbage like Bush.

Let's hope enough people have realized what a mess we are in and will give a real leader a chance.

That would be a good idea in a perfect world because there are a lot of people out there that could do a better job...but you forgot one requirement...

Unfortunately, the ones that could do a better job don't get the financial backing or have a direct line to the "good 'ole boy" network that it takes to get elected.
