| Coyotes are like cockroaches, they will be here forever. They adapt to environmental conditions very readily, and have moved into the suburbs and cities as well. They are very good at killing small pets like cats and small dogs. In addition, they can, in packs, take down larger animals. In addition, they can transmit diseases and sickness to pets. In our area, mange has taken over a lot of the coyote population. This is transmittable to dogs. Also, rabies, distemper, and related problems. Coyotes also are territorial, in that they will kill other animals within their "territory". One example is their extreme hatred of foxes. You will note that most fox sightings are within town, as the coyotes kill them in the rural areas. In the country, they can kill calves, chickens, lambs, and other domestic animals. They are a very smart animal, and learn very quickly. Being a "country dweller" I have had numerous run-ins with coyotes, and I have hunted them many times in order to control a population. However, they seem to bounce back very quickly. I have only seen them "attack/bite" a human maybe a couple of times, as they are normally very afraid of humans. However, as they advance into the towns and suburbs, they get less and less afraid of humans. |

| There are two things that I know of that make coyotes brave toward humans. One is hunger. The hungrier they get the braver they get. Keeping small pets outside will protect your children a little. The other is familiarity. Once they get used to being around people and realize that these city dwellers are not threatening them, the kids start looking mighty tasty. |

| We have coyotes in L.A. even. They come down from the mountains when they are hungry. I always hate it when I see lost pet signs next to the coyote sighting signs. The irony kinda makes me giggle but surely wouldn't if it were my pet on the lost sign. |

| Oh no you wouldn't want to trap them and move them. Not when shooting them is so much more fun!

| I'd be the leader of organizing a hunting team to kill as many as possible, but I wouldn't want anybody shooting in my neighborhood, so it would be hard for me to imagine shooting in any other neighborhood. Again, there are little ones to think about...
