| Tks: Carnegie, Dona Lancaster & DC Arts Brd The area owes a special thanks to the Carnegie Center, Dona Lancaster, the director, and the Dodge City Arts Board for the great last two nights of poetry, music, art, and community -- full crowds -- great performances (even a few edgy moments).
Make sure you consider getting on their newsletter list. And perhaps joining to support a small growing venue for unique evenings and mental jump-starting, most importantly.
The Carnegie Library building is also a restored and very rare round-roofed example of the Gilded Age's Andrew Carnegie, and what he designed as a building of knowledge and learning in 1907. Also, he demanded the city get involved by furnishing the books, and the staff. It was a very successful plan in Kansas -- Carnegie Library buildings still exist in Kansas cities. However, only a few -- four or five as I recall -- are the round style. Dodge's also has a classic 1930s WPA addition.
