because another case won't need to go to the SCOTUS.

Lower courts will read the ruling and apply it.

The process will be shorter now.

I find that outlook naïve at best. You said yourself that this will be fought over in the lower courts for years and the President selects judges for those lower federal courts. We’ve seen the lower courts pervert Miller for years and the gun-control supporters are already attempting to pervert Heller.

Democrats have a laundry list of restrictive gun laws on the back burner. None are “reasonable” or “common sense” in nature. With a filibuster proof Senate and the House majority that you desire these ridiculous laws would sail through to Democrat President that would sign them in a heartbeat. And they would be stacking the courts with like-minded judges to approve them.

Obama has supported banning all handguns in the past and said he believed the DC gun ban was Constitutional before the Heller ruling was announced. Only after did Obama “redefine” his position on the DC ban in an effort to pander to bitter folks still clinging to their guns.

It'll probably sound a dumb, (but sincere), question: "why do Americans feel the need to carry guns?"
But please don't give me that automatic but antiquated response of - ït's written into our constitution"! Let's think 21st century here.

This sort of attitude would deeply worry me!

Primarily for self defense, Binky, although a periodic snake or coyote does pop up.

What about not needing it and not having it? I don't feel I have to carry a weapon on me for "self defence", in any event that kind of logic only perpetuates weapon carrying. Who wants to live in a society where gun-carrying is considered the norm? I certainly don't, and such conditions don't pervail in Europe or indeed other countries throughout the civilised world so why the US?

The antiquated response of - "it's written into our constitution", is a pretty good reason, though.

ummmm....sure that sounds delightful. So does 50 cent oil, peace between nations, bipartisanship, racial equality, equal opportunity, fair taxes, and sitting down with you for a couple verses of Kum-ba-ya. But let's get real here. There are guns in every nation, even in Britain. Criminals will have them no matter what laws you enact. The gun-rights movement in our country seeks to allow the law-abiding citizens to complete a lengthy course and evaluation to get licensed to carry a concealed weapon to protect themselves. Less than 1% even seek the right to carry. With the criminals, the percent is much higher.

Personally, I like the idea of the good guys having more guns and being more prevalent, than the bad guys- but hey, that's just me.

I don't feel I have to carry a weapon on me for "self defense", in any event that kind of logic only perpetuates weapon carrying. They don't prevail here either, in respect to gun carrying being the "norm". Like I said, less than one percent actually seek the permit to carry and of those, many don't actually carry a weapon much of the time. What does prevail, as a result of what the Brits did to us many many years ago...is the premise that the government cannot be trusted to have overwhelming power over the people, and with that the right to carry by a law abiding citizen has been preserved.

Despite your attempt to classify the U.S. as uncivilized, it's not the picture you envision as shown on the old west movies. We don't have a bunch of people carrying, as you might think.

It was the Brits that made us the way we are, with respect to gun laws. I'm pretty sure you know the story.
President Obama has responded to our national debt spiralling out of control by calling for the creation of a Deficit Commission to find solutions to the problem. Coulter suggests The Deficit Commission's first recommendation should be "resign immediately Mr. President."

Tip o'the hat to Ann Coulter
