Highwayman, I see you're quoting from Britain's biggest scaremongering daily paper, The Daily Mail. It's always full of "shock horror" stories, it thrives on them, in fact I believe it employs specialist journalists to dig them out!
The Daily Mail does not represent a true and balanced picture of Britain, it's in the business of selling "shock horror" - if you believed everything they said you'd jump off a tall building.
I'm not saying Britain is perfect, of course it isn't, it's got its own problems like any other country, including the US, e.g., uncontrolled immigration, street crime, anti-social behaviour fuelled mainly from alcohol, drugs, etc.
To my mind we need to pull out of the EU so we can deal with these issues ourselves without the continual interference of the the bureaucrats in Brussels.

I hope you never need to rethink your position.

On my visits to the US I always feel safe whether its Boston, Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, New York or Florida - I guess just taking sensible precautions like staying out of certain areas is the key to it, but that's the same for any country you visit.
