| Dear Flying Dutchman: I think you would be much happier if you went back to the Netherlands where I am sure there are no Hispanics. The anger in your post must surely increase your blood pressure which is in danger of giving you an aneurism. Our world will never be perfect. A solution to the illegal immigration problem is far from being conceived and probably will never be to your satisfaction. I'm talking about leaving the politics out of this mess and acting as a true Christian. Jesus administered to all people no matter their background. He did not check documents. He led by example. Are we not taught in religion to give until you have nothing left to give. That you will be rewarded in the end. I do not support anyone receiving anything for free unless they truly deserve it. I rely on the people that work in our government agencies and charitable organizations to recognize those that do, no matter their circumstances. I NEVER said anything about owing them anything but instead understanding their circumstances and trying to teach them to be contributors to their communities. You twist my words to suit your rantings. When I mentioned reaching out to them, it was not to give hand-outs nor extra benefits. I meant to say is quit treating them as if they are beneath us. I do not know in the grocery store which Hispanic is legal or illegal. But I'm pretty sure that the majority of people assume they are all illegal and treat them as such. You have made this issue completely black and white, basically stating there can be no gray areas. That is impossible. For your health, I suggest you try to be more accepting, caring and compassionate. Give love a chance. |

| Wow.....I fail to see anywhere in my post that I said anything remotely negative against Hispanics. Also, since you are new to the board, it is obvious that you do not know me or how I write because there was no anger whatsoever in my post. Slap me with a fish for being against people coming here illegally, collecting charity illegally and making life difficult for those that are legal. Tell you what, come to my office and sit for a day. When the first person comes in and can't get a job because someone else is using their SSN, and it takes them a good 6 months to fix it, tell them to be compassionate about it. When the first person walks in and has a lien slapped on them from the IRS for back taxes, from work they never did, tell them to be compassionate. Actually, since you seem to want to throw religion into this, ask an illegal alien what Jesus would do. I wonder if Jesus would have used a false name to keep from getting into the trouble he was in. Angry, not really. Frustrated is more like it because I am tired of the entitlement mentality. Come her legally and I have no problem. My family from Germany did. I am tired of our government allowing this to continue.

Does the Bible and Christian theology have anything to add to the illegal immigration debate? Are Christians supposed to act one way or another on this social issue? Christianity does have some answers to the moral questions raised by illegal immigration. These answers are to be found both in Christian scripture and the bible. It is possible to be both a good Christian and have secure borders. It is also possible to demand illegal immigrants be deported and to practice Christian charity. In chapter 13 of the apostle Paul's Letter to the Romans, reads, "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed..." (Romans 13:1-2). Clearly, this is advice to Christians to follow the laws of their nation and to respect the laws of other nations. When people come to the U. S. illegally, they are committing a crime. They are doing something that is against the governing authorities of the U. S. Illegal immigrants are not good Christians from Paul's perspective. Illegal immigrants may have reasons for breaking U. S. laws, but those reasons do not excuse their illegal actions. We should not let charity and compassion blind us from the criminal act illegal immigrants commit. Those who work in a law-abiding way against illegal immigration and those who ask that the laws of the U. S. be enforced are being good Christians in doing so. Likewise, those who demand that illegal immigrants be detained and deported respect the governing authorities of their nation. In line with Paul's argument, they are doing what good Christians ought to do. excerpts Jesus did heal and help the physically poor, but he did not do this as a part of establishing the political rule that others (and perhaps John) thought the Christ would establish. Rather, these healings and miracles were used to demonstrate who Jesus was—the Messiah or God. The healings and miracles testified to Jesus’ divinity. The bible does speak of the rich giving to the poor, but never does it say that all people, even the poor, should be forced into charity. The bible repeatedly upholds the concept of self sufficiency over charity. If Jesus where here today, I think he'd be appalled at the abuse of our governmental programs by those that break the law of the land. Furthermore, I think he'd be sad that Christianity is being used to justify it.
