Put the parents in jail and send the kids back to stay with relatives. That's what we do to American criminals.
And God knows they have an abundance of relatives.......

I just read in the Globe that the public library had a American Dream Fair for imigrants so they can find out how to get ss cards, health care for them selves and their kids and a class thrown in to learn english. Don't they know they already know how to work the system before they even get here?

Just because their parents may have chosen to bring them here illegally, once they turn 18 they're able to make the choice to do the right thing. They could go back to mexico & apply for a student visa if they want to be eligible for any sort of rights & privleges of citizenship here!!!

The thing is 357...that being here illegal is not just a crime...it's a way of life. The kids are not at fault for being here illegal but (I'm generalizing here, there are always exceptions) the general attitude is the values the parents teach their kids. Once someone comes here illegal...illegal becomes a way of life and trickles down to the behavior of the kids. It goes from teaching them to milk the system for benefits to little things like cutting in line at Walmart (they skipped the immigration line..why should they wait in any other line?) to parking in a handicapped spot because it's close. It's a culture and a way of life. Look at the DUI's and crime here. This is what is taught to the kids of the illegals for the most part. You can spin it any way you want to be like wordy said ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL. If you are 15 years old and don't have papers you are STILL ILLEGAL regardless of how you got here....just not as responsible for being here ILLEGALLY. They should pass a law that if you bring your kid here illegally it's doing a crime with a minor and it should be a felony...not that it would slow any of them down.

I know a few people who before they turned 18 were standing in line to get their citizenship because their parents brought them when they were young. Oh and look at the DUI and crime rate..... Look at how many aren't of hispanic origin. Also who's to say they are all Illegal??? I love how you think that just because their skin is a different color than yours they are automatically illegal. I can look at the jail log and see yes there are more hispanics than any other race, but if they are illegal they have ICE holds, and there aren't very many on there with that which means they are probably legal citizens. I'd love to see what's said if my last name ever appeared in the paper, I have a non-white last name, but I am white. My husband is half hispanic but is whiter than I am oh and guess what...... his father is a LEGAL american citizen. Oh my goodness, someone who's not white and is here legally. Who would have thought.

Ok young lady... My wife is hispanic so I don't think that just because someone is brown they are illegal...just not so. She's legal. (I think )

As far as the ICE holds...how do they determine if they are illegal or not? Is everyone arrested checked and if so to what system? Does an ICE hold identify all illegals or do some slip through the cracks?

Sure white people get dui's. DUI is not single to any race but lets do the math here.....DC is about what...70% hispanic. Statistically 70% of the DUI's should be hispanic. NOW...how many of those 70% do you think are illegal? I'll let you do the math on that one. Do you have access to the stats of those arrested? I am sure they keep them but they don't make them public. Maybe you could dig those up for us. I'd be interested in seeing them.

They don't have those stats because they don't want to know and don't/can't really find out with the current system. Just because you use a legal name, doesn't mean it's really you. There is no system that connects a person to a birth database in Mexico. There is no system that reveals how many people are using the same SSN, that I know of. If Juan Gonzales gets arrested and a police agency associates a name with his fingerprints from a prior incident then yes, he's tied to that name. But the question is...does the DCPD check fingerprint files on all crimes to make sure the person is really the person their documents say they are? And do they then cross reference the database to make sure nobody else is using the same SSN? ...or using a SSN of a deceased person? NO, NO, NO- too much trouble/resources.

So what you are saying is that just because someone is in the city or county jail and doesn't have an "ice hold" on them doesn't mean that they are not here illegally.....

I would imagine that they may also call ice about certain people and ice just doesn't respond to them. Do they just put a hold on ones that are wanted for something?

I know and that's why I can't understand how you can rag on the hispanic population as much as you do. Yes I have my complaints and my problems with some of them, but I don't take stabs every chance I get. There are, from what I've experienced, more good ones than there are bad ones. I'm not sure it's the same for you. As for the stats, no I don't have any access to how many or who's who. I do have access to who's arrested but no I'm not going to go through every person and question them on if they're legal or not, if you have the time feel free to come sit at the jail and question every person arrested and see if they're legal, the list is posted in the paper every day. I personally don't have the time to do it. Besides at 1 time I'm sure unless you are 100% Indian your ancestors were illegal too, as were mine, people just didn't make as big of a deal about it as it is now.

I didn't say they were all legal if there was no hold, I said they were probably legal.
