It’s probably just a knee-jerk reaction to some arrogant European’s constant jabs in another thread that we are somehow less “civilised”.

Who wants to live in a society where gun-carrying is considered the norm? I certainly don't, and such conditions don't pervail in Europe or indeed other countries throughout the civilised world so why the US?

First of all, not one of you has yet explained to me why the rest of the civilised world does not share your views about their citizens carrying/having guns - it seems that only Americans are obsessed with the need to have them.

No one commented about the fact that we took the guns out of Northern Ireland and helped its society get back to a more normal civilised way of life - without guns and all the death & misery they caused!

Thank God common sense prevails in Europe!

Never questioned the fact that the US is a civilised country, in fact I've stated the fact that the US is civilised a number of times. Please pay attention - you seem to miss the point, I'm simply saying that the US is one of the few civilised countries that seems obsessed with guns and possesses a strong gun culture - that's all, but it's a point you seem to repeatedly miss, quite simple really, except your apparent inferiority complex keeps getting in the way!

In the gun thread you kinda came across as arrogant. That is not like you. Nor is it becoming on you. It makes you seem so...so...so ...American.

Apologies if I come across as "arrogant", I don't mean to but the pro-gun supporters seem so arrogant in their views, perhaps its catching!

Binky, I'm a gun carrying Liberal.

Why?

Well I enjoy shooting sports and the skills I gain when I participate.

I also believe that the government should be afraid of its people and not the people afraid of their government.

Do I not trust my government?

Lately, no, not for about 7 years now.

I'm reasonably sure that it would never come to an armed rebellion but I like to live my life prepared for the worst and hoping for the best. This way everything is covered.

I carry my handgun everywhere I'm legally allowed to do so.

Why?

Because there were times I was damned glad I had it when I wasn't legal to carry it.

The one time I can articulate best was when I was cornered in a bathroom at the packing plant by 2 other guys with knives telling me to back off when I was getting a little close to something they didn't want me to.

I pulled my gun, told them it was just like two wetbacks to bring knives to a gunfight and walked out without a scratch.

I have no problem with reasonable restrictions on firearms but I also know it's my right to have them. Just in case.
