Painkiller Popularity

It sure seems like the latest drug craze nowdays is painkillers and god help you if you dont have a legit reason to ask a doc for them! I know around up here in Yankeeland the Drs are waaaay spooky about prescribing them, in fact there are a few I know of that wont prescribe them at all, sending the patient to a pain management specialist which I had to go thru with one primary physician I had and it was a BS ordeal so Im very thankful that I have the Dr I have now who knows and understands what my situation is. Anyway, enough of my BS. Just thought I would post a story I saw in the Hutch paper about some ladies getting busted in Dodge for some fraud prescriptions.

Women charged with fraud to get prescription drugs

By The News staff

DODGE CITY - Three women here, including two former Dodge City Medical Center staffers, face a slew of charges for allegedly obtaining prescription drugs through fraud.

Last week, Ford County prosecutors filed 13 counts of fraudulently obtaining Vicoprofen, a painkiller, against Katina Fletcher. She allegedly obtained the drug on 13 occasions dating from March 29, 2004, to Oct. 19 of the same year.

Prosecutors filed 13 identical charges against Gloria Calderon on Dec. 30. But though the alleged dates are the same as in Fletcher's case, the drug Calderon allegedly obtained is different, according to Zelda Schlotterbeck, the prosecutor in the case. Schlotterbeck wasn't sure what the drug is.

A third woman, Lynnsi Coker, faces 16 counts of fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs dating from Jan. 5, 2004, to Nov. 19 of the same year. Schlotterbeck wasn't sure what the alleged drug involved is.

Fletcher and Calderon are former Dodge City Medical Center employees, according to Gene Dole, the administrator there. But, as per company policy, he wouldn't say what posts they held or when they worked there.

Schlotterbeck wouldn't comment on the link between the three women's cases. Aside from similar charges, the witness lists in each are identical.

Fletcher, who was arrested at Dodge City Medical Center on Jan. 5, is to make her first appearance in court on Feb. 7. She briefly was jailed after her arrest but posted bond and was released.

Calderon and Coker were issued summons to appear in court on Feb. 16.

Fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs is a misdemeanor on a first offense but becomes a felony in subsequent convictions.

TK no one ever said that drugies are the most intellegent people in the world. If they were they would put the effort they put into stealing into getting help to clean up their lives. It's sad but people with adictions seem to have tunnel vision and only see their next dose of drugs.

It wasnt too long back that I was propositioned to sell some of my Percs since they had heard that I have back problems and the offer went from $4 up to $5.50 per tab! God knows how much one of my Duragesic 100 (Fentanyl) patches would go for! But there isnt a snowballs chance of it ever happening. Besides the fact that I have no desire to be busted but to lose the meds I do get not to mention that I need them a LOT more to just be able to get around what little I can than I would care for knowing someone is just out for the buzz!

I was referring to the probability that it was a nurse that did this. Perhaps not but nurses usually go for the good stuff....... the addiction is to much stronger meds - this kinda dippy med is the stuff that is just sold on the street - I have worked with some impaired nurses and they often times are shootin they are not takin drugs with swallowin..... My guess is these folks maybe worked in medical records or were not nurses. Course there are lots of nurses that "sell" but don't really use. Either way - just a waste cause the license is now in jeporday - if it's nurses. I personally can't imagine putting my career on the line for something not very potent. When there are so much better drugs to get. Often nurses will also go work in the enviorment where thier drug of choice is.

I have a variety of pain killers but I try not to use them. I'm saving them up for the next presidential election. If a democrat wins I'll be taking them daily for the next 4 years...
