I think the parents will be civily liable IF they can prove the teens did all thier drinkin there. If not they might be partially responsible IF they had alcohol at the party. Lots of unkowns here.

What is known is this kid was the driver, this kid ran to who knows where - and stayed with who knows..... lots of tight lips goin on here.

A juvenile court hearing to determine if Reyes should be detained pending resolution of the matter is the next step, perhaps within two weeks, Antosh said. In the meantime, Reyes is being held at a juvenile detention center in Garden City.

"Detained" is the key word to me here. He's already in a "detention center" that's what we call the illegal holding area. There are so many damn kids now that we have detention day cares....... then they go back to the the detention center where they live.

What I see is when ever the kid makes it to court on the wreck issue........ within a couple of weeks after that they will determine if they throw him out of the country or let him stay to serve his punishment for the wreck....which you can be sure equates to probation or something....... I doubt if they send this kid to "kid jail" for this.......... that's why they are hailing him as a hero......for comming back...........

Yeah boy is some hero........ he cut and ran........ then decided to re enter to an attorney......... this is an all time LOW on illegeal entry. Ya noticed there was no mention of "harboring a fugitive from justice" charge... WHY?.... cuase they can run to our attorneys but our attorneys can't hold them responsible for breaking our laws................. this just sucks............ he shoulda stayed where he was at........... and not come back at all......... cause he probably never shoulda been here to begin with............

I might be way off base but this is how I read this......... I don't know any charge you can be garuntted a court date in 2 weeks...... if that's the case how long they been workin on his defense????......... this just smells all wrong to me............

Those old cowboys often carried a second hidden gun to defeat the gun check. It’s easy enough to carry a second set of keys or just hand over some junk keys carried for that purpose. Sorry to sound negative but folks intent on ignoring rules (and laws) will find a way.

If convicted he will serve the time first then be deported if that is the case. Being that he was 16 and driving, that makes him an adult. That he ran shows he has an understanding of his consequences. In a big city he might be found not guilty out of sympathy. Here, no go. No jury here will be sympathetic and his lawyer knows it. The two weeks is not when it will start but when it will be arraigned and to see if he stays in candyland or gets to come to our jail. If there is a trial it won't be for another year or so. "Right to a speedy trial" is open to what is considered speedy. His lawyer does not want a speedy trial, the longer his client is detained the more lenient the judge will be.
As for who is to blame............the list could be endless but ultimately he is. I got drunk at my dad's wedding and I was 16. Did that make my dad a bad parent? Hell, how many of you remember going to the bars here in Dodge when the drinking age was 18 and we weren't? As for a curfew.........yeah right. The kid did what most teenagers do......they forget to look at least two feet in front of their noses.

My point is this cat ain't no friggin hero......... His attorney is gonna probably be pushin for illegal jurors in order to assure a fair jury...... Bein in Texas I am sick to death of thier BS and thier flagrant disrespect for my country........ he was a jerk when he ran and he's till a jerk. He has entered this county at least twice illegally........ he's proven he has little to no moral fiber. Most of all he's wastin my tax money and yours. Just another parasite in MHO....... we got plenty of kids that don't think ................ we don't need Mexico's kids that don't think too............... convict him, exonerate him...... whatever then send his ass packin........... he screwed his American dream........ it's time for him to be gone.........

Maybe I missed it. Where did it say that the 'Hispanic boy' was illegal?

The only problem with that is, you have to be a registered voter to be called for jury duty, and you have to be a citizen to be a registered voter. An illegal can't run for any office or become a registered voter.

Wanna bet????............ Florida is having a problem now - alll you need is a driver's liscense - you are registared to vote when you get your DL...... what do ya need for a DL......... Social security card........... what do ya buy at the flea market?........... SS card............ Florida I think has known this a while - that's why all the politicians are so worried about the uproar that's going on now. Trust me Bubba............. some of them ARE voting according to Florida.

Originally i believe the paper felt he had fled back to Mexico. Maybe not - but if you read the story very carefully and read between the lines you will see he is at a detention center. If your kid was a waiting a trial....... he would be out on bond. His charges are bondable. They chose thier words carefully......... I haven't seen anyone comming up on charges for harboring a fugitive.......... don't ya kinda wonder why?................ I might be wrong but I think I'm closer to right. Course it doesn't matter either way........ the jerk ran when his friend was dead. I understand he is a young man and young men make mistakes but how long does it take to "face the music"?....... there is a reason why he came back and it's not honor.........

It wouldn’t be the first time a news story left out the part about being illegal. Political correctness at work.
