Dentention center is just our fancy term for jail. He is being held in the juvi jail, along with other juvi offenders, until they determine if he is going to be adjucated as an adult. He is not being "detained" because he may be an illegal alien. Detained is another of our fancy terms instead of saying "incarcerated".
Charging somebody with harboring a fugitive is not a simple matter, I personally do not remember ever booking someone in the jail for it. First you have to prove somebody harbored him, then you have to prove they knew he was a fugitive, then you have to prove they knowingly kept information about him from law enforcement. Since he is now here I doubt anyone will ever be charged with it.
Because he already ran then his bond will be extraordinarily high, if any at all. This is common and not an exception.
I doubt he is an illegal, but I wouldn't doubt it about his parents. I doubt he went to Mexico because there would be no reason to come back. I suspect he was with family close by, Garden or Liberal, and his family was getting paranoid. I wouldn't put it past the victim's family to have a bullseye painted on his back also. Much safer for him where he is now.
My best guess-----he will plead to the charge, all other ones will be dropped, he will serve a max of 3 years (maybe 5, but I doubt it), his family will re-locate to another area, and other than the victims family all will soon be forgotten.

To be fair - I must admit I don't know if he is legal or not. His actions say he's "iffy" at the very least. Altho I do say any kid that already uses 2 dates of birth doesn't get my vote of confidence. He also it appears is not willing to talk to DCPD........ and he wants "resolution"???........ he's been "on the lamb" since January 16th........... what am I supposed to think?.......

I did see that an Oscar Reyes apparently had a 3.0 - 3.49 GPA and seemed to play soccer for DCHS and even managed to score a goal that won DC a game. OK....... if that's the case he USED to be a sports kid that at least got passing grades......... along with the use of 2 birthdays........... How many kids do you know that at 16yo..... uses 2 DOB? The only ones I can think of is for beer buyin purposes........doesn't seem like a stellar student with soccer dreams to me.................... but might be....... who knows? What does it matter - he's workin on a "plea" as it is........... he is still a jerk that ran after he killed his friend and thought only of himself - took him 3 months to think of the life he helped snuff out due to his wrecklessness. Course I know he will "have to live with that forever"...... doesn't seem to have bothered him much for at least a quarter of a year!!

Just seems fishy to me....... but I will admit with all the Mexico flag wavin goin on around here..... I might be and probably am jumping the gun....... My apologies - I hate folks that jump the gun......... so Dutchie...... thanks for bringin me back to earth. A little devil's advocate never hurt anybody.

Good point - but detention centers are for illegeals down here........ we call the other's being "incarcerated" at the juvie detention center. Difference in terminology.

No need for apologies, but you are welcome. Although it may seem that I am sympathetic for this person, Im not. I think he should get the punishment he deserves regardless of any of his past accomplishments. I think you use those when trying to lay a foundation as to wether the person committed the crime or for mercy when sentencing. This kid did it and if he was so smart and disciplined he failed to use those traits when they were needed most. So to me they don't count for squat.

Naw when someone says they are being the Devils Advocate - I figger they are throwin in the possibility of the "other side"......... that don't make ya a bad boy!!.......... I think that way too - on many things but I am pretty passionate bout sides when I choose them. I like the "what if's" of any topic. So I wouldn't object if you knew him or supported him. It's your right and there are always several sides to any story................. I was jumpin the gun (must be the social enviormnet)....... so I figgered I should go look for some good things that maybe this kid has done before he got so stupid. Well I did find them and that just makes me wonder.......... why, why, why???? Any normal kid doesn't have anywhere to run......... they have to face the music........ when a "Reyes" runs........ I think Mexico....... - my mistake (maybe)........ but the 2 birthdays almost got me convinced....... all he needs is another name to seal the deal!!!!...............
