Cars Run Over Man On I-4, Keep Driving
Man Apparently Jumped Off Overpass

As many as eight cars hit a man who apparently jumped off the Lake Mary Boulevard overpass onto Interstate 4 during rush hour Monday, according to a Local 6 News report.

Witnesses said several cars were not able to avoid a body in the westbound lanes of I-4 at about 5:45 a.m. near Lake Mary Boulevard.

"He was literally torn apart by the vehicles who ran over him," Local 6 reporter Jessica Sanchez said.

Witnesses said some of the drivers pulled over to the side of the road after hitting the body.

"At the time I hit it, my truck lifted off the ground," motorist Danny Bower said. "That's when I realized it was something more than a dog."

Many other vehicles continued driving on I-4 after hitting the man, witnesses told Local 6 News.

"We stood there after calling police and I think at least three or four more vehicles hit it," Bower said.

"And kept driving?" Sanchez asked.

"Yeah," Bower said.

After an initial investigation, it was determined that the man likely parked his GMC truck on the overpass and either jumped or fell onto the interstate.

There was blood found on the overpass but police are not certain where the man was bleeding from.

Florida Highway Patrol officers are trying to identify the man.

A lane of the interstate and a ramp from Lake Mary Boulevard to I-4 was closed but has reopened to traffic.

Ooh Yuck! It even makes me almost sick to hit a dog - I don't know how I'd react to hitting a human body. Those that didn't pull over likely thought they'd hit an animal and so didn't bother. How gruesome. If the poor guy was suicidal (evidently he was), he didn't bother to think about how others would have to react to his death. Sad.

I can't imagine how they felt when they got home and saw it on the news.

I sure hope he didn't just fall off the overpass......... it happens........ just a very sad story......

I'm going there with ya sista! A while back (prolly 20+ years ago) there was a person in Dodge who decided to kill himself by walking in front of a semi on a dark highway. Caused trauma to his family, not to mention the driver of the semi. Your mind would have to be in an awful place for you to think that's your only way out.
