The comments quoted above come from remarks made by President Bush at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida, on 4 February 2005. He was there to drum up support for proposed changes to the Social Security system, his stop in Tampa but one of a number of "town hall" meetings arranged for that purpose.

The President gave his muddled explanation after he had completed delivering prepared remarks and was taking questions from the floor, his response prompted by an unnamed woman's query about the efficacy of proposed changes to the Social Security system. E-mailed versions of these remarks collected in January 2006 assert that the subject of his comments was the Medicare Drug Bill, a controversial plan much in the news at that time, but this is itself a muddling — the topic President Bush spoke on that day in Tampa was Social Security.

The President's mish-mashed response appears approximately three-quarters of the way through the White House transcript of that meeting:

Is this the best thing you can come up with? If you understand it so well why don't you give my 76yo sister a call and explain it to her. While your at it why don't you explain it to the whole US. This was not a Bush proposal. He didn't dream this up by himself.

I must say tho that basing the price of drugs on the pay of a retired person is fairer than letting the drug companies set the price. If the cost of living goes up with the price of drugs many seniors can't pay the bill. My sister got a 500 a year raise in SS........ the insurance now goes up. Hopefully this plan will keep the costs affordable to seniors so they can afford medicine if it's based on their actual income rather than the income of the average worker. It's a separate plan of protection for the elderly. There are and will be kinks. When the other party gets in maybe they can address the fact that there are seniors buying cat food because they can't afford to buy meat.

But back to the issue - WHO would you rather have the tickets given to???? Someone that doesn't respect the President anyway? Or maybe someone that is fighting for your right to vote your mind in the next election.

Sorry I still go with the Fort Riley group. And the truth is not ALL soldiers are republicans altho many are because the republicans stand for a strong military. They need support to do thier job......... they rely on republicans for that.
Out of 1500 tickets 1000 were given to a group of people who cannot ask real questions. That's my only point.

I see.

Copying the comments from a Q&A from nearly a year ago was for what purpose?

A good example of why he needs to be insulated from unscripted questions.

As stated in your snopes link, he does have trouble putting complex thoughts into his own words.

Every president has his questions submitted prior to his speaking....... where you been Wordie? How do you think politics work? The only time you can blindside a politician is during campaign and even then they surround themselves with "like" folks. Grow up - it's like this everywhere - don't matter what party you run with.

Jesus politicians been muddlin for years. Quit whinnin - the election is commin!! I promise IF your party gets in - I'll be just as respectful to the Dem as I am to the Rep.
