What most people don't understand is a little fact I learned when I took a tour of the Coors plant in Golden, Co. The real story between 3.2 beer and 6 point beer is one measures the amount of alcohol by weight the other measures it by volume. I don't remember which is which, but if they were both measured the same way you would have one averageing about 3.2% and the other at about 3.8%. The fact is that when they check the amount of alcohol, if it is more than 3.2 it is automatically labeled 6.0. Even if it is only 3.3%.

So, 6 point beer isn't all that much stronger than 3.2 beer. If people think they get drunk faster on 6.0 beer, I would say a lot of that might be psychological, they think they are drinking strong beer so they act accordingly.

If you really want to have fun, poor non-alcoholic beer in a regular beer bottles and serve it to a friend, keep playing the good host and get them a "new" beer everytime they are empty and watch them get drunk as the night goes on......

3.2 beer is more a legal benchmark used to regulate its distribution. The percentage is relative to its weight. If you had 100 pounds of beer, 3.2 pounds of it will be alcohol. What's important to know is alcohol is lighter than the other ingrediants of beer. If you could separate the alcohol to the top of the vessel you would see that the volume it takes-up is more than the top 3.2 percent. Thereagain, it's because alcohol is less dense.

Strong beer (or 'repeal' beer) is measured by volume mostly because it provides a higher percentage figure.

FWIW, 3.2% 'by weight' is 4% by volume. Domestic Strong Beer is usually 5%.

As a final thought, water weighs 8 pounds per gallon. Alcohol is 21% lighter than water so a gallon of alcohol weighs ........ 8 X .79 = ? 6.32 pounds per gallon.

Edit: During Kansas' Prohibition, 3.2 beer was considered a "Cereal Malt Beverage" and not alcoholic. The 18 age law applied; and should still apply.

Well I still wanna know what's the point of both in one state? I just never got it......... Our drinking age is 21 - plain and simple. Anything else is underage and the stings my DIL has worked has been many. If you are sellin you get ticketed. If you have been ticketed X times before - you go to jail and might I add after the ticket you are not allowed to sell till court day. End of story. So why is it that it's so important to Ks to allow 18 yo to drink? Isn't that kinda askin for disaster? Heck even those 21 & over have difficulty drinking responsibly....... what do ya expect when it's encouraged by the state?.....
