Just wanted to share this with ya'll. This is what's called "sundown law" around here. If it's dark - idiots beware. This guy kept bangin on the door, left then returned to kick in the door. He apparently did this at his house several times cause his Dad would lock him out. Too bad the owner was on the other side with a 357. He supposedly shot him in the eyebrow and the rest is graveside services.

Homeowner shoots, kills intruder

TEXAS CITY — A 26-year-old Texas City man was shot and killed late Friday night after he apparently mistook someone else’s home for his own.

Texas City police Sgt. Brian Goetchius said David Wayne Stewart was shot after he kicked in the door of a home in the 900 block of 26th Street North around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said they believe Stewart, who was walking home after picking up some food at a nearby fast food restaurant, was intoxicated and was trying to get into the wrong house.

Stewart’s own home is just blocks away, police said.

Texas City police received a call from a woman saying her husband had just shot someone trying to break into their home. When police arrived, they found Stewart lying inside the front doorway.

Goetchius said the 74-year-old homeowner fired a single shot from a handgun.

While an investigation is ongoing, it is unlikely the homeowner will face any criminal charges.

“We believe it was a justified shooting,” said Goetchius.

I wish the media would report more of these stories. Self-defense shootings happen more often then most folks realize and if it was better known some of the idiots out there might think twice before doing something stupid. These stories get buried in small print in the back pages of a local paper. A school shooting on the other hand is on the front page of every paper in the country for days.

An armed society prolly has about as many gun related deaths as an unarmed society has; BUT with a higher percentage of the dead ones being the bad ones.
