| My father was physically abused by his father. The scar on his lip is a constant reminder of being force fed a 2X4 along with the tip of his thumb being cut off. My mother was abused and molested by her father, and other family members, as well. The scars on her back, chest and other areas are her constant reminder of how a hanger, cigarette lighter and other items are not to be used. My grandmother was also severely beaten as a child, as were all the kids in her family.
I can count on my hand, with fingers left over, how many times I was spanked by all of them.
They believed that you "spank" a child when you do something wrong, not when you make them mad. I think those against spanking see only the worse case, not what it is intended for.
