Actually, just because the kid doesn't hang w/ the "druggie crowd" doesn't mean he doesn't do drugs. When I went to school there was a "druggie crowd" but nowadays that doesn't hold true. Kids in sports are doing steroids and using performance enhancing drugs...a LOT of kids are doing X and /or smoking weed. Drug use is an accross the board issue and not just confined to one type of clique.

I'm sorry that was my point........... that the clean cut kids are usin - most folks think any "sting" is after the "dirty dealin gang banger"...... my point was that those types don't play sports but there is plenty of drug use to go around.......... don't have to be throwin down banger signs to need a drug screen.......... sorry I didn't make myself plainer................

I read the article as i said i would and i see the good in it. I just don't think it's all to fair. If you come to class high, then i see that as grounds for a test. I dont have the same view on some drugs as the rest of you. I dont frown upon someone who smokes pot every once in a while, just as i dont frown upon someone who drinks every once in a while. I DO see that the schools are trying to cut down on kids becoming addicted...that's great.

Here's an abstract situation...Kid goes to amsterdam for spring break, smokes some marijuana...it's legal. Get's back to school, up for drug test. Kid gets in trouble for doing something that was legal.

I can see the validity in private schools, but in public schools-no way. You lose so many rights at school. Your locker can be searched without you knowing, you're bookbag may be searched, and your car may be searched. I still see the drug test just like a full cavity search. Unless you have a DAMN good reason to search, don't go there.

I agree - no public schools. There are just too damn many ways to misuse the results, as we've all seen misuse of any power the public school admin has.

My point is they are children....... this shouldn't even be an issue with kids. Kids have the rights thier parents give them. They don't get to choose till they pay taxes as I see it. They are not adults and don't belong messin with adult stuff. I'm glad I don't have to parent now days.. I would be a friggin disaster........ LOL....... My poor grandson is gonna have such a hard time with Mee Maw....... he loves me now but we'll see when he's 14........... LOL
