Border Officers Find Pot in Veggie Cans

SASABE, Ariz. - Federal authorities seized marijuana that had been stuffed inside vegetable cans that a man was accused of trying to bring through the border checkpoint at Sasabe.

Customs and Border Protection officers inspected the man's truck last week after answers given by the occupants aroused the officials' suspicions, according to a statement from the agency.

The statement said the officers decided to open a can because it looked and felt unusual. They found a package of marijuana inside and began to open the other cans.

Officers also found marijuana in the hollowed-out sides of an ice chest.

They seized 34 pounds of marijuana in all.

The driver was arrested and turned over to immigration agents, according to the release.
