    Thornburgh "pulls a Palin"

What is it about the lure of private sector money that causes these lemmings to quit on the job?

who knows? health reasons? maybe he just wants to quit. do you get the second degree when you quit a job? do have to give reasons to justify it to others?

He's going to work in KC, so I doubt it's health reasons. Has there always been such a "free agency" mentality for elected officials? Maybe he wants to see Missouri from his deck, who knows!

i don't think it is much of our business. just because he has served in public/state life, we don't own him. if they want to quit and do something else for whatever reason, whether it has been 2 years or 20, it is their decision. it is human nature to be curious about it, but ultimately not our business--and their choice to share the reasons or not. no "mentality" to it one way or the other.

Well, my first thought was that he got a fantastic offer from a civillian company and since he wasn't (I'm thinking he'd already made his decision) running again for reelection, he may as well quit now. There's something to be said for the public official who realizes full well that he's given as much as he/she has to give and it's time to move on. Or maybe his party approached him with a request to not run again. We really don't know. But one thing for sure....he's movin' on. An' I wanna know more about this Olathe-based NIC. Guess it's time to google.

Ahhhhh. It IS a no-brainer! Here's what Google has to say about this company: NIC has built more than 4,000 online services for government, including:

No doubt worked with them as Treasurer in building the Treasury website.....and, though they have a base in Olathe (in the high-rent district), it's not their home office - and I'd bet with this being Internet-connected, he can work from about anywhere and not have to move.
When the goin' gets tough, the tough go shoppin'!

Missouri from his deck? Is that like Russia from my house? That would be Tina Fey, not Sarah Palin.

A common mistake by folks that get too much of their news from comedy shows.

Anytime someone stops sucking the teet of the government pig and goes to the private sector, it's a good thing.

Unfortunately, it's happening less and less.
