| Giving someone an excuse to use hateful words by saying the hurt is caused not by the speaker of emotional stabbings - but rather by the sensitivity of the intended target REALLY shows how manipulating some people can be ................ It's insane to think that what you say doesn't affect those you say it to. To hide behind the "it's your fault" mentality is insulting. Take responsibility for your trash, stand by it, or clean it up. If it is something you feel you have to go to extremes to support, then it's probably not the words you shoulda used. Butch up and take the consequences. WORDS - It's how we as humans communicate and the mere fact that we are emotional beings.......... sets the stage. There are those who like to view themselves as too "logical" or "too intellegent" to let others hurt them. That is such a front........... all humans bleed red blood...... every human has the potential to hurt another. If you do it to make yourself feel better then you deserve to be called into check. Some are too sensitive - agreed Altho I must say I don't know of any parent that wouldn't come to the aid of thier child.................... you can't expect anything different from a parent. It's the risk you run when you choose to verbally attack instead of thinking of others rather than yourself all the time just to prove a "logical" point. My only conclusion is that those who think parents are out of line for standing by thier offspring....... must not be parents yet........... so don't worry the "feeling" will come to ya in time.

| Well said TexKan. I've always thought the idea that "words only hurt if you let them" was dime store psychology. I think Imus put that theory to bed.

| Tex, if someone called you a word you'd never heard before, would you be offended? If someone said, "Wow, Tex, you really a ------," would you consider it a compliment or an insult? Words only have the weight and meaning we assign to it. If someone called me a geek, I'd be damn proud of that title!! Some of my friends, however, would rush to hide their graphing calculators and collection of Richard Feynman lectures because that'd be the last thing they'd want to be known as. Yes, words can hurt. Words can drive us to extreme acts. But the full impact of the power of language does not just come from culture around us - it also comes from US INDIVIDUALLY. You can choose not to be offended. Maybe the question is whether or not we WANT to. |

| When it comes to your kids............ ya just can't help yourself. When it comes to my family........... I just can't help myself. I make no apologies for my responses just like some make no apology for thier words. Fair trade off the way I see it.

| What about his First Amendment right to free speech?

| Free Speech? What a lame excuse to be hurtful............. it was a stupid comment - even by Imus' account............... It was inappropriate why does everyone have such an issue with the fact that even he has admited to it being inappropriate?........... Imus doesn't seem too concerned bout the "free speech" side of his comments.

| Imus still has the right to criticize his government without fear of retaliation from said government. First Amendment? Check. Imus does not have the right to personally attack another group of individuals, broadcast it to millions, and expect to collect a paycheck for it at the end of the day.
