Politics as usual?

I'll be the first to admit I just don't get politics. Not so much the shady actions of politicians, but why we except this shady actions as if its what we want.

In reading the Hutch web site this morning I noticed an article on the Dodge City casino/County tax repeal. Unless I'm just misunderstanding it says something to the effect that they were trying to "hamstring" the vote on the repeal of the county tax for the events center with the vote for a casino.

Please tell me I'm just getting the wrong impression, but it almost seems as if they can put the tax repeal on with the casino vote so that people that want the casino would also have to OK the tax repeal. Surely this can't be right. I mean I'm not surprised to see such underhanded actions by politicians, but for the voter to allow this just seems completely stupid.

Actually, it states in the law the question for the ballot.

Quote:
(d) Upon the adoption of a resolution calling for an election pursuant
to this section, the county election officer shall cause the following
proposition to be placed on the ballot at the election called for that pur-
pose: ‘‘Shall the operation of a destination casino be permitted in
____________ county."

If they add anything to that question it would be in violation of the law.

PS. Before anybody jumps on the fact that this is a house bill and not the law. This house bill is what was passed in the House and Senate and sent to the Governor and she signed it into law. I just don't know the number after it was signed. I did, however, know the Bill number so that is what I looked up.
