JW, it occurred to you because you’re spot on.

Im not slamming any party.. Just wanted to share this from my email...

This is the most interesting. The sad thing about it, you can see it coming.
I have heard about this Democracy countdown. It is interesting to see it in print.

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new
Constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at
the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the
Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier "A democracy is always
temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of
government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that
voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public
treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the
candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with
the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal
policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of
the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has
been about 200 years.

"During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the
following sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage"

Professor Jose ph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St.Paul,
Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000
Presidential election

Number of States won by
Gore: 19
Bush: 29

Square miles of land won by
Gore: 580,000
Bush: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by
Gore: 127 million
Bush: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by
Gore: 13.2
Bush: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won
was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country
Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in
Government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government
welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the
"complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of
Democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already
having reached the "governmental dependency"phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty-million criminal
invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say good-bye to the
USA in fewer than five years.

You know; I'm all for legal immigration..........My mother is an immigrant so if it weren't for our country's willingness to allow other people from other countries to come here, I'd be living in Canada.........

That being said.......

Before she became a citizen,I remember as a kid going to the post office with my mother EVERY YEAR so she could report her where abouts to the Government.....she was here legally, but it was a sipulation outlined in her visa..........other stipulations: She agreed that by being here LEGALLY, she would not become a ward of the country; she was unable to apply for WELFARE, etc. She would not be eligible for any government assistance.........

I figure if was good enough for her, it's good enough for everyone else. Let them come......LEGALLY. And.......make it on your own.

..and there you have the liberal voting base....that's why libs take from the have's and give to the have nots, to keep their voting base. A person will not bite the hand that feeds them. The minimum wage is an example of this also...

Maybe if the Army only paid minimum wage you wouldn't feel that way. I agree with you on the part where MOST places already pay above minimum wage, the part I don't agree with is that the ones earning at or below minimum wage are only the ones that earn tips also. There are a few @sshole business owners out there that will only pay the minimum wage to there employees so that they can pocket the most money they can. Those @ssholes are the ones that an increased minimum wage is aimed at.

Many moons ago a friend of mine moved to Texas and was looking for work. Several jobs paid less than minimum wage. He was told if he didn’t want to work for less there was plenty of Mexicans that would.

If you want to keep wages low, flood the job market with undereducated, often illiterate workers that can’t speak English.

I disagree. The only businesses that CAN pay lower than the minimum wage by law are those that employ fewer than a certain number of people. So, Bubba - by your post, I would be led to think that anywhere I go, I can demand at least minimum wage. What's to stop me from educating myself, get training where I need it, or learning a new trade so that I can go somewhere that voluntarily pays more? Where is my choice? Why does the government have to tell my employer what I'm worth? You pay minimum wage and you end up getting what you get. I still think that if the government would stay out of it, this economy would right itself much faster. Economics isn't a team sport.

The minimum wage should be market driven. If Walmart can has 2000 people lined up for jobs at $6.15 an hour why would they pay them $7.50 an hour? NOW if they can't get help for $6.15 an hour then the market would dictate that they have to pay MORE to get the help they need. Just because an employer wants to make money doesn't make that employer an *******...lol It's WHY they go into business.

If the Army paid minimum wage there wouldn't be an Army. If the Army did pay minimum wage I would work somewhere else. MOST professional organizations pay more than minimum wage. The min wage really doesn't effect that many people...(see above). What is DOES do is cause prices to go up thus creating more tax income for city/state/fed gov't. Also the payroll goes up again creating more tax income for the above....Think about that. A minimum wage increase hurts YOU Bubba because you will pay more for everything from your cherry limeade and the sonic to a gallon of milk at Dillons. Also a lot of union contracts are negotiated to be a certain amount above minimum wage...if that goes up then the union people reno for a raise...
