Petraeus and Crocker report to Congress

I missed the report but I’ve been able to catch some of the Q & A. It isn’t had to figure out party affiliation when you listen to the questions. Democrats are just short of calling them liars. We know they want to but with approval polls showing Petraeus and the military getting a much higher rating by the public than the sinking poll numbers of Democrats it wouldn’t go over very well. So the Dems get the nutroots to do their dirty work.

From Politico.com;

Quote:
Letting the anti-war groups take on Petraeus or Crocker.

These groups have no problem going after Petraeus, as evidenced by heavy criticism of him by Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (“It is clear that Americans cannot trust any assessments that come out of this White House, or Gen. Petraeus when it comes to the war in Iraq”) and the Center for American Progress, among others. But it is a tactic that Democratic lawmakers themselves want to avoid.

“No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV,” noted one Democratic senator, who spoke on the condition on anonymity. “The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us.”

Between Iraq report and a hard place - John Bresnahan - Politico.com
Sure enough, MoveOn.org ran a full page ad that got several comments in today’s hearing.

MoveOn.org Political Action: General Petraeus or General Betray Us?

It’s really a crock when some folks are willing to publicly trash a man that has spent 35 years in the military serving his country for political reasons while claiming to support the troops. What a bunch of hypocritical *******s.

I'd have to agree the general is quite the career saving hypocrite.

I see OoD has joined the bottom feeders.

Joe Lieberman from the Hartford Courant;

Quote:
"General Petraeus has served his country honorably and selflessly for over thirty-five years. He has risked his life in combat and accepted lengthy deployments away from his family to defend our nation and its citizens from its enemies. For this, he deserves the respect, admiration, and gratitude of every American -- not the disgraceful slander of Moveon.org," said the senator, an independent who caucuses with Senate Democrats. MoveOn.org has close ties to Democrats.

Lieberman, in fact, charged, "It has been widely reported that Moveon.org has worked closely over the past months with many members of the Democratic Party in coordinating their efforts to derail the strategy that General Petraeus has been leading in Iraq."

The senator said he did not know if Democratic leaders were consulted. "That is not the point," he said, "The point is that when partisan political attacks which have already divided and weakened our nation in many ways are directed at a non-partisan, non-political commander like General Petraeus, everyone has a responsibility to shout, 'Stop. Enough.'''

He also called on Democratic congressional leaders to denounced MoveOn.org.

Sorry you feel that way, just proving again the truth is whatever one wants it to be. I don't have much respect for the general and that's because of something I have been told by one source who works in his command structure.

You called those who would question his motives hypocrites right off the bat. That's your choice. I'll still respect you in the morning.

The good general has allowed himself to become a political pawn speaking in place of the comander in chief. In that capacity he's just as open to criticism as the "decider" and his motives and past trac record are as open as anyone's to scrutny.

Nice of the Reichwingers to try to change the discussion from the report on Iraq and its validity to trying to quash someone's freedom os speech rights.

Do you really think "Betrayus" is the worst thing he's been called? For that matter do you think that's the first time he's heard that one?

I think he'll be OK.

I am ashamed of the lapdogs that roll over an play dead in congress instead of doing what they were elected to do.

The Shame is an administration that allowed this mess to happen in the first place and officers who put their careers first and their men second and continue to prosecute this charade.

The escalation did not work. Early "leaks" are the President is going to announce a reduction in force tomorrow. Let's see what that really means.
