What happened to THIS Democratic Party?

What happened to the Democratic party of the JFK era. He stood up against communism, cut taxes and said this famous line....

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.

Where is THAT Democratic party? It seems everyone now a days has their hands out asking what Uncle Sugar can give them...gimme free health care, gimme money, gimme a job, gimme a higher minimum wage, gimme gimme gimme.....That's a problem.

I also found this line in the speech....

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

It's here. RIGHT FRICKING HERE. Been here all along. That party, those people, those values and ideas are still present, and still powerful. They are not the faces of America you see on the nightly news, or on CNN or FOX or where ever you decide to let others tell you how to think and feel about things. Yes, sadly the numbers are dwindling, but we are still here. It's not a time period thing. It's a values thing. A morals thing. It really pisses me off to think just because its not obvious that most of America's citizens are peace loving, rational thinking people, we've decided that there is something wrong with America. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS GREAT NATION, NOR WITH THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN IT.

Yeah, we have our issues, as all great nations do. And yes, there are some messed up people walking around with odd values and no moral compass but all in all we are still the worlds brightest hope for peace and prosperity.

Like it or not, we freakin rock.

I agree and the chance for prosperity is there...it's just some want their country to do for them instead of the other way around...

We all basically want the same things. The difference in opinion is how we are going to get there. Some folks think there is an easy and immediate way to get there and others understand it requires a lot of hard work.

And the people that want to get there the easy way want the gov't to do it for them. The people that want to work hard just want the gov't to get the hell out of the way and let them move forward and be successful.

There will always be folks that abuse any and all things.

However as an affluent nation would we rather our poor sit on city streets and beg for their daily sustenance. No way to bathe, no hope, no reason to live ?
All you have to do is Look at the poor countries. Its so out of our understanding that this is just their daily lives. I guess kinda HELL ON EARTH.

Do we want our little kids and old folks rummaging thru trash dumps ?

Can't have it both ways.......Either help them or turn into a third world entity.

It wasn't that long ago that our nation had to feed folks in soup kitchens.

We need to remember who we are and what we are blessed with.

Jesus said something to the effect that the Poor will remain with you always.
We have folks that have health problems, Mental problems, depression (now that's debilitating as hell and hard to be rid of)

WHEN WE ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO HELP POOR FOLKS, we are in deep trouble.

Yes there are abuses and just plain lazy asses. WASHINGTON D.C. for example.

Here is a link for some enlightenment

The Salvation Army: Why Help The Poor?

Some of the poor countries are Hell on Earth. They have high unemployment and it leads the young people to be terrorists and such because they have nothing else to do. In our country though we would NOT rather the poor sit on the streets and beg. We have about a bazillion social programs to prevent that...unfortunately a few fall through the cracks and the rest just choose to be that way through the poor decisions they make. If you spend your life eating meth do you really think you are going to live in a nice house and have a great life? A recent census came out talking about the "poor". Did you know that 97% of America's poor have a color tv, 78% have a dvd or vcr and 62% have cable or satellite. Nearly 75% of poor households own at least one car and 30% own two.

HERE is a better link about POVERTY: Understanding Poverty in America

THIS puts poverty in perspective. We don't want kids and old people digging in dumpsters to eat. This mental picture is a great reason why we should PRIVATIZE social security and let people invest their own money into their own account then they won't have to depend on a SS system that is on it's way to disaster in the current status quo. The fact is though the Liberals don't want this because it takes their power base away. When you have people that are not dependent on gov't rolls it empowers them and takes the gov't control away. Many people that are on gov't programs vote liberal because you don't bite the hand that feeds you.
