Another Democrat shows his support for our troops

Not really. But don’t question his patriotism when he accuses our men and women of committing genocide.

Quote:
“Sure there’s less violence, but that’s because we’ve ethnically cleansed most of Baghdad”
- Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA)

(Washington, DC) Vets for Freedom condemns the recent comments by Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) on the floor of the House of Representatives in which he stated that American troops “ethnically cleansed Baghdad.” The United Nations, along with the rest of the civilized world, commonly refers to ethnic cleansing as genocide.

“Once again, Congressman Moran demonstrates how far from reality he has fallen,” said Executive Director of Vets for Freedom and Iraq Army veteran, Pete Hegseth. “Jim Moran has a long history of putting his foot in his mouth, but this time he has gone too far. The men and women who make up our nation’s military are decent and honorable citizens who bravely serve to fight our enemies who threaten our national security. Insinuating that they are war criminals is outright despicable.”

He continued, “I call on all Members of Congress to follow Vets for Freedom in our condemnation of these irresponsible accusations, as well as on the constituents of the 8th District of Virginia to stand up to such nonsense and support the men and women whose very sacrifice allows Moran to run his mouth.”

Vets for Freedom is a nonpartisan organization established by combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Its mission is to educate the American public about the importance of achieving success in these conflicts by applying our first-hand knowledge to issues of American military strategy.

Question Highway...

Do you think we have brought the Sunni & Shiite people together in Baghdad, or has our presence and all that followed drove them apart??

I take it from that response that you approve of elected officials bad mouthing the troops in a public forum.

If our military did anything wrong there are proper channels to deal with it. A politician making accusations for political gain isn’t one of them.

I take it from our response you can't answer my question...
The youtube clip you posted is humorous right wing proganda.
Sorta like the link in your sig..

This is NOT the first time therm term "cleansing" has been used in referring to Iraq. You knew that right Highway???

Joe Christoff
G.O.A.
10/30/2997
“You know, we look at the attack data going down, but it’s not taking into consideration that there might be fewer attacks because you have ethnically cleansed neighborhoods, particularly in the Baghdad area. It’s produced 2.2 million refugees that have left, and it’s produced 2 million internally displaced persons within the country as well.”
Mr. Speaker, we must remember that the justification for the surge and the justification for the Bush military strategy in Iraq has always been to foster Iraqi political reconciliation. And there is precious little evidence of any such thing."

Now, could other words have been used??
Sure.
But, what Christoff & Moran are saying is that because we have segregated the Sunni & Shiite in Baghdad, (temporarily quelling the civil war) there is less violence.
They're not saying OUR TROOPS ARE COMMITTING GENOCIDE..

Got it????

So you can’t read and you can’t hear.

Quote:
“Sure there’s less violence, but that’s because we’ve ethnically cleansed most of Baghdad”
- Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA)
“We” has to mean our military because that’s who’s over there.

From the Vets For Freedom press release;

Quote:
“The United Nations, along with the rest of the civilized world, commonly refers to ethnic cleansing as genocide.”
Moran crossed the line and is being called on it. The propaganda in this thread is you attempting to spin a defense for your Democrats who continue to run an approval rating in the gutter.

BTW, in case you haven’t noticed, folks are moving back.

Quote:
BAGHDAD — The drop in violence caused by the U.S. troop increase in Iraq has prompted refugees to begin returning to their homes, American and Iraqi officials said Wednesday.

Tahsin al-Sheikhly, an Iraqi government spokesman, said 46,030 displaced Iraqis had returned last month from outside the country to their homes in the capital. He declined to comment further on how the government determined those statistics.

"People are starting to return to their homes," said Maj. Gen. Joseph Fil, commander of U.S. troops in Baghdad. "There's no question about it."

Such assessments run counter to the overall trend detailed in a recent report by the Iraqi Red Crescent, which said the number of internally displaced people had more than quadrupled over the past year, reaching 2.3 million by the end of September.

Fil said the military had observed a different pattern, with 200 families recently returning to their neighborhoods in the northwestern part of the city.

"There was a time in Baghdad when there was a lot of migration," he said. "That has for some time now largely come to a halt."

WE don't ask if they're sunni or shia before we shoot. WE kill bad guys. Or pay them to be good guys. Either way, not much cleansing going on. I am sure that suit from Virgina knows more about than I do though, since he's obviously spent much more time here than I have.

Just so you don’t feel neglected Spike, here’s some current news.

Quote:
Sunday, 23 December 2007

BAGHDAD — Approximately 1,000 Iraqi citizens, of both Shia and Sunni religions, joined together on the sectarian fault line in Rawaniyah, the Karkh District of Baghdad, to march with one another in what they called a “Peace March”, Dec. 19.

It was an Iraqi initiative to ease sectarian tensions, solely driven by Iraqi Neighborhood Council (NAC) and District Advisory Council (DAC) leaders and Sheiks from both religious sects in the area, said Capt. Marcus Melton, commander of Pale Horse Troop, 4th Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, attached to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

With Iraqi Army and Iraqi policemen maintaining the security on the streets and within the crowd during the event, they were able to successfully complete the march for united peace among all Iraqis.....

i think one of the onlyways to end the war is to have one Kurd site, one Sunni side, and one Shiite (sp) side.....

The thing is guys, they are not like here, they dont think of themselfs as Iraqi's, they think of their religion fist..... So to the Sunni: He thinks he is a Sunni, not an iraqi....

Anybody get my drift?
