IMO, the conflict in Iraq is thousands of years old. We went in and disrupted the whole country, a Country that only Saddam could control, if that meant killing his own people, thats what he did. Other Countries posed more threat to the USA than Iraq, period. Although we supported our son when he served in Iraq, and the rest of the soldiers in Iraq, they was sent there by our Government, not by there choice.

I don't believe that only Saddam can control that place, the Brits did fine for awhile there,. WHen I went, when my brother went and most everybody I have met who has served, with the exception of about 20-30%, supported the action then and now.

Let's not forget that Iraq is an artificial state created by us Brits in 1932 out of the three regions of Baghdad, Basra & Mosul. Its ethnically divided, (Arabs & Kurds), its religiously divided, (Sunni & Shia), and since 1958 it's been governed by various repressive military dictatorships - it has never known "democracy", in fact what state in the middle east has, apart from Israel?

The southern Shia have always felt close to Iran due to their shared Shia religion and the fact that the Sunni have always held power in Iraq. It concerns me greatly that our brave service personnel are fighting & dying there for what is in my opinion a futile war. It never was "a war on terror", before the invasion Al Queda had no presence there, Saddam made sure of that. In my view it was all about one thing, OIL.

AND...if it's about oil then why are the DEMOCRATS trying to make Iraq pay up in oil? It's funny that everyone thinks Bush invaded to take Iraqs oil and the Dems are the first to step up and want something...lol

It's interesting, (and instructive), as to what Dick Cheney's view was in 1994:

YouTube - Cheney '94: Invading Baghdad Would Create Quagmire C-SPAN

If it wasn't about OIL, (which it was), and it wasn't about WMD, (of which there were none), was it about installing "democracy"? If so surely the prime target should have been North Korea, after all here was a rogue hardline Communist state, still technically at war, which had a nuclear capability, and a repressive regime that was willing to sell its nuclear secrets to other potential rogue states & terrorist groups. Yet no attack or invasion - I wonder why?

There are many ways to take down powers....force is not the only option. In Iraq force was an option. North Korea is falling from the inside out...give it time.

Because of this....

Quote:
Smuggling and theft in Iraq may be choking off up to $15 million in potential oil revenues to the war-torn Opec nation each day, the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) said today.
and that report was when oil was about $50-60 per barrel. Now that it is in the $100-110 per barrel range that figure would be about $30 million each day. Is Halliburton and others with no bid contracts doing the stealing and selling it on the cheap to the big oil companies so that they can make billions in profit? We will never know....
