They didn’t do their homework on the stock market either.

Bloomberg.com: U.S.
The article was just a left wing attempt to evoke an emotional response void of facts...what do you expect.

Or maybe the increase of food stamps reflects a growing population of newcomers.

But it might be racist to suggest that.

Wow, you sound like Hillary Clinton. That would be a dangerous road to go down when the gov't starts determining when a company makes too much profit and "compels" them to give up that extra profit....
Me thinks if Mr AOO is going to use other posters quotes, he might use the whole quote to more accurately reflect the context in which it was taken. Here it is for the record: "I think maybe big oil should be compelled to give up some of their grotesque profits to finance your hero's messy little war."

Me also thinks the road is much less dangerous than the road Mr AOO is so quick to endorse and his little hero has taken. Namely Iraq. After all, it's only money, not blood.

Yea, of course it is!!
We all know that Bear Stearns was a figment of peoples imagination, that there is no such thing as a "credit crunch", that 28 million American citizens do not have to rely on food stamps, its just dirty piece of commie propaganda, and the housing market is not collapsing it's healthy & buoyant.
Gosh, I just saw a pig fly by my window .......

Sure America is in a "credit crunch"...a lot of it brought on by poor choices and speculation. A few years back we had the same thing with the "tech bubble" bursting and a lot of people that owned dot com stocks lost everything. It happens.

Take a minute to read this please...

How Poor Are America's Poor? Examining the "Plague" of Poverty in America

Some highlights of "America's Poor"..

Eighty percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, in 1970, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.

Only 6 percent of poor households are over*crowded. More than two-thirds have more than two rooms per person.

Nearly three-quarters of poor households own a car; 31 percent own two or more cars.

Ninety-seven percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.

Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception.

Eighty-nine percent own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and more than a third have an automatic dishwasher.

How many "poor" people on food stamps do you know that have Cable Tv, a dvd player and more than one tv...or even a computer with the internet. I know of several.

It's interesting that you measure everything in terms of materialism, e.g., cars, colour TV's etc., what about food for the soul, the moral imperative?

um...yeah. That's exactly what poor people are looking for..."food for the soul". That is at the top of their list....
