Also forget neocon.

I'll come up with something new for you when I have time. I'm still at work so it will have to be later.

Allright, allright. Ignore the "handle" and address the content. Namely it seems as if you and Lizzy have differing opinions as to the reasons for the huge deficits RR managed to run up. I was just wondering which of you was really "right".

PS I'll come up with a really clever handle for your ilk soon. Something really original, yet descriptive and accurate. Shouldn't be too hard..........

can we both be right? I'm sure it was caused by more than one thing.

Well...I'm not an accountant or an economist.....I would say the huge spending on the build up of the military combined with massive tax cuts without enough spending cuts contributed to the debt.

I'd say your probably pretty close to being on the money there.

I'd also be curious as to how much that deficit spending contibuted to the rest of the positive numbers you quoted. For example there's no denying that RR increased military spending while in office. While he was doing that he was creating thousands and thousands of jobs in the defense industry. This led to higher tax receipts, lower unemployment, growth in private wealth etc. All the things Reaganites like to cite. So would it be fair to say all this prosperity was a direct result of government programs? And if so, was it worth the massive deficits it created?
