Out of touch

What will it take to get the Washington idiots to understand about the problems that our nation has faced for quite awhile now. They claim to know. So if they know then it stands to reason that they just don't givearatsass.

"One-third of welfare recipients are functionally illiterate. They struggle to perform the simplest of reading, writing and quantitative tasks -- e.g., completing a job application or bank deposit form. Another third of this population possesses only marginally better reading skills, still unable to perform many basic job-related tasks."

Has anything changed ?

I think not... I know my grand children graduated with horrible grades....how does that happen.

My wife teaches High School and she's telling me that the leading cause of bad grades is not doing homework or just not coming to class.

Some kids do just enough to get by and D means Diploma.

No child left behind encourages schools to graduate as many students as possible because if the graduation rate drops they can loose accredidation.

And she's still listing reasons but I can't type that fast.

My heart goes out to teachers. I believe that most really do care but if kids don't want to learn and they aren't held accountable at home, then a teacher's hands are tied.

Its a hard thankless job and takes nerves of steel. God bless your wife wordie, and High School no less.............. eeks ........

School

Ok, probably going get my hind end in the ringer, but thats ok. This is how I see it.

Teachers can't discipline! And the students know this. They can also cry "MINORITY" abuse! As if! Children learn from their PARENTS! So if the parents don't give a rats butt, then how could the children think anything else?. And when parents come into this country "ILLEGALLY", and break our laws etc. What does the child learn? What do you think? Its ok to break laws! If mom and dad breaks the law then what else would the children learn?
Far to many children today have "NO" respect for anyone at all. And for some reason they think that this is ok! Their parents don't have respect for our laws, so why should the children? How a child behaves, starts and continues in the home!

When they stopped discipline in schools what could anyone expect except unruliness, destruction of property, teachers and students being singled out for punishment, etc. etc. etc. For those of us who were brought up with discipline still in school, there were not doubts about what would happen if we got the least little bit out of line! Not today! Today they know that "NO ONE" can do one thing to them! So they do just exactly what they want to do, when they want to do it.

It is way past time that those laws be taken off of the books and replaced with ones that will work! Enough "mamby pamby" crap! Bring back the days of the yard stick that was made out of hickory or oak! And start wailing on some of these little turds! Now is the time to "VOTE LIKE YOU MEAN IT'!
My rants done!

me, too. When my kids were in school and brought home a note from the teacher, they could depend on getting in more trouble at home than they ever thought possible at school. But now parents are busy working two or three jobs and don't have the time to discipline. And now we're in a recession. Geezus. I feel sorry for the little brats. No discipline means they'll have to learn the hard way when they become adults and we don't have enough prisons!

The way I look at it is you get what you put into it. If you drop out of school your freshman year don't bitch down the road when you are the Jr. fry guy at McDonalds. These people may be somewhat illiterate but they damned sure know how to milk the system and cash a check. In our society there should be no reward for those who quit but it seems that those that work hard to succeed are the ones that get penalized.
