So, how should the "number" be zero??

If you are saying we NEVER should have went to Iraq in the first place, then I see your point. If you said we NEVER should have went to Afganistan, then I see your point. If you said yes to both of the previous statements, then I really don't know what to say.

Too many people don't really realize the cost of war/conflict etc in both lives and money.

BUT, if you do not believe we should be there, I respect that. I believe we should be there, but need to find an end to it.

It's a war...like it or not. After the war is over we will have troops stationed there along with equipment permanently housed there in case we have to send more soldiers over for a flare up...they can just fall in on their equipment.

You nor I will live to see an Iraq w/o a U.S. military presence...like it or not. The sooner you swallow that fact the sooner you will feel better.

At some point Iraq will probably become a tour of duty like rotating to Korea. It's considers a "without dependents" tour and I'm sure Iraq will be the same. They are probably not going to start building family housing there anytime soon.

That is how many "bases" were started off of American soils.

It's interesting to hear Dick Cheney's views on Iraq in 1994 - "how many additional dead Americans is Saddam worth, not very many" he says when talking about taking Baghdad. His views seem somewhat different in the 2003 invasion!

LiveLeak.com - Dick Cheney on why America shouldn't invade Iraq (1994)

In my view the whole Iraq war has been built on a tissue of lies that have cost our brave young service men and women their lives and brought untold grief and anguish to their families and friends - and the blame lies squarely with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld & co, plus on this side of the pond Tony B Liar.

You are getting closer there. We should NOT be making the mess we have in Iraq.

Afghanistan is the one we really had no alternative for and by prosecuting the war in Iraq W diminised the efforts in Afghanistan and made it harder for those troops to do their jobs.

I do agree we should not have bothered with Iraq, but
I still feel better/safer now that Sadam Hussein is out of power.

I just wish congress and Papa Bush had finished this job in the early 90s.

Saddam was the only one who kept order there and our invasion pushed borderline muslims over the line to radical terrorists.

We would have been much farther ahead leaving him in his box.
