What amazes me is that we can send a little robot a gazillon miles away, control the little bugger to dig up dirt, send back soil samples and pictures, cure diseases, build precision bombs that will hit a gnats ass from across the globe....just to name a FEW of the things we can do....and on top of that I'm SURE we have technology that we know nothing of and would be amazed to learn about....

    BUT

we are STILL using the SAME concept of a gas powered motor that was develped over 100 years ago!!! We have just tuned it up and added a bunch of st to it to make it run better. You would think we could find another way....

I think it's a money thing. The GOV'T that everyone loves so much could pour A LOT of money into developing something that would work TOTALLY independent of oil and gas...not like ethanol, which is a sham...

To begin with we need to change our habits totally. We should be a nation of thrift instead of excess. I lived in Germany 15 years ago and when I was there you could ride a bus anywhere and recycling was MANDATORY...period.

We should invest in more public transportation that is safe and clean. We should try to car pool more also.

We have batteries that can power anything....we have batteries the size of hair pins but we can't build a battery powered car that will work on a mass production phase. People need to give up the idea that they need speed and power....

The answer to your question about a battery car is the new Tasta Roadster. Style and performance that you can recharge at home with your own solar power. If you hurry, you can reserve one for a mere $109,000. (Solar power equipment for recharging sold separately)

There’s no question that AFVs are the wave of the future. You hit it about mass production. There’s not a lot of us that can run out and drop over 100 G’s for a new car. It’s going to take years before these cars are in mass production and affordable to the masses.

I can't believe my eyes. These statements are coming from the guy that rants and rants about wanting less government and how the government mucks up everything they get into. Public transportation? Mandatory recycling? Government funded research? What gives AoO?

I'm going there with ya, 88. Army usually does call for reduced government intervention (less taxes). I'd prefer that the research was privately funded - by the oil companies or the car companies. But why should they invest in it? When Americans will still buy the gas-guzzlers? Supply and Demand.....

I don't know how recycling could be mandatory without a whole lot of oversight...I mean, are they going to paw through my trash at the curb and make sure I'm recycling everything that can be recycled?

There is public transportation up here. I can tell ya...it's none too popular. So few people actually avail themselves of the opportunity, that the routes are not scheduled well and way too long. If more people would use it regularly, it could pay for itself to buy more buses and run better routes.

Next week is my first week EVER of car-pooling. We'll see how it goes. I'm a late person (I stay till 7 or 8 in the evening to get some quiet work done), and this is going to force me into leaving at 5 or so. Hubby coughs with a purpose when he sees me pull out the laptop after I get home, so I'm thinkin' it's not going to work well in the evening. May have to get up earlier and finish things in the quiet morning. Sunrises are pretty, too, right? :wasted:
When the goin' gets tough, the tough go shoppin'!
