“The Country I Love” TV ad

Barack Obama launched his first ad for the general election. It’s a nice warm piece where he refers to his Kansas values and cites various accomplishments. Even conservative pundits have praised the ad as a good one. You can view it on YouTube if you haven’t seen it.

There is one little problem that might come back to bite him however. He claims to have passed laws including one that “extended healthcare for wounded troops that had been neglected” and cites Public Law 110-181. His problem with that claim is that he didn’t cast a vote for that bill. It’s really dumb to make claims that are so easy to check out.

If you don’t have much of a record to run on, just make stuff up. Obama’s supporters don’t care how much he lies as long as he wins.

Hillary Clinton "Broomstick One" Duress Signal

I thought this was funny. Maybe you've seen it already.

Soldier cornered for photo-op, as Hillary exits brromstick one...

Pictured above is a soldier who circumstantially became a prop in a Hillary Clinton photo-op. This valiant warrior, who prefers to remain anonymous, gave the well-known "duress" signal by discreetly crossing his fingers.

Facing a similarly ruthless enemy, the brave sailors of the USS Pueblo, captured by the North Koreans in 1968, surreptitiously flashed the "middle fingered salute" when being posed for propaganda photos. They clandestinely agreed that, if pressed, they would explain the gesture as a "Hawaiian good luck sign".

The only national law in Obama's ad is the one that "extended health care for wounded troops," and it's dubious whether he can claim full responsibility for that one. H.R. 4986, which became public law 110-181 in 2008, includes provisions from several Obama-sponsored bills. His ideas made it into law, but Obama was not a sponsor or cosponsor of H.R. 4986 itself.

Obama was not a sponsor or cosponsor, his amendments were not adopted and he didn’t vote on the bill. The best that anyone has found so far is a possible connection between Sec. 1662 and 1663 with Obama’s failed S 713.

Claiming to “have passed laws” when there is only an extremely minor connection is like showing up at a Habitat for Humanity build site, driving a couple of nails for a photo opp and claiming that you build the house. The real work was done by someone else.
