April 1778 - US attacks England!

Here's an amazing little known, but surprising story, (or at least, it was to me!). Perhaps you are already aware of it.

BBC - The One Show - History: Whitehaven – Dan Snow

interesting video clip!

You can't help but admire the courage of John Paul Jones in coming all the way across the Atlantic and doing what he did - of course he was in fact English-born but now is regarded as an American hero!

We were very slow to react to his audacious raid, if he had been caught no doubt he would have been tried for treason and executed. I liked the way he handed back the stolen family silver to the Earl of Selkirk!

Often events in history have romantic, heroic and honorable flavors, but in reality motives were far from honorable.

The French, for example, did aid in our bid for independence, but they had their own agenda in mind.

So Jones prudently decided to make a retreat. When the papers got hold of the story, however, they gave it a tabloid spin that left the British public terrified of an American invasion. Jones had achieved what he’d set out to do after all.
So the British practiced tabloid journalism, the public believed it and was needlessly scared silly.

Little has changed in 230 years.

You're so right!
Are Americans generally aware of this story?

I would be surprised if the majority of Americans even knew who John Paul Jones was, sadly.

Yeah, we kicked England's butt and what did they do to us? They waited nearly 200 years and sent over Musicians.

So, starting at 6:30, KONQ's going to play its entire Beatles library; just to acknowledge the one good thing they did do for the US of A.

P.S. We're playing Eagles music now.

When I saw you were doing all Eagles and all Beatles, I was wishin' I was close enough to listen in. Funny they waited 200 years, but they finally did send us a nice gift, huh?
