    Price gouging

Monte Bute of the Twin Cities gets a rude awakening.

A few days ago I received a letter from Barack Obama, pleading that I "rush a generous contribution" to him. I placed the return envelope in my checkbook.

The same evening I got a call from his campaign asking me to door-knock on the weekend. I already had plans but I agreed to future weekends.

Then I requested a lawn sign. The volunteer informed me that I could buy one at campaign headquarters.

Buy one? Purchased in bulk, a two-color lawn sign might cost the Obama campaign $1. I checked the Obama '08 Web site. They offer the budget-conscious supporter a generic 26-by-16-inch sign for $8. For those Obamites into conspicuous consumption, the site advertises a variety of 22-by-15-inch designer signs for $19.99. If this were an oil company, the Democrats would be accusing it of price gouging. As Kurt Vonnegut put it, "So it goes."
So Mr. Bute gleefully opens his checkbook. Or does he?

So I have learned that even heartfelt allegiances are conditional.

I will write no check nor will I knock on any door until the person answering that door can get a free lawn sign. I urge Obama supporters of conscience to do the same.

I recently spent countless hours writing an op-ed article favorable to Barack Obama. It was a labor of love and a proud contribution to his candidacy. I now realize I was a fool not to have billed my hours to Obama '08.
Mr. Bute fails to point out that folks who have already donated the maximum amount by law would be breaking the law to purchase a sign.

That's funny, Highway. I hear how he's being so successful raising money for his campaign. I wonder how loving his wife would be if he lost the race and ended up owing a large chunk of that money back. If nothing else, it would give the heart a jolt! And it would warm mine!

You know KC, Obama isn’t on as solid of a footing as his supporters want you to believe. The infanticide thing caught up with BO over the weekend and caught him in another lie. He had his butt handed to him at Saddleback and the best his people can come up with is accusing McCain of cheating because he looked better prepared. McCain WAS better prepared. Obama has been in a dead heat with McCain in the polls for a couple of weeks now and that normally means a Republican victory. And he still has to get past the convention.

I know some folks think that I’m blowing out my rear about Hillary still having g a shot. But I’ve been watching some of the Hillary supporter sites and I’ve looked at the delegate counts. Hillary only needs to win about 225 delegates for the nomination and there’s 103 uncommitted. Remember the super delegates can change their mind at any time. BO has stepped on a lot of Democrat toes. Not surprising for a typical Chicago politician. And he’s made a lot of amateur mistakes. A lot of those delegates care more about a Democrat win than an Obama win and the party is a lot more divided than party spokespersons will admit. The fact that BO caved to the Hillary supporters on the roll call vote is viewed by some as weakness.

A couple of things to remember. FDR won his nomination on the fourth round of roll call voting. Never underestimate or trust a Clinton in an election.

Obama’s attempts to unite the party by giving Hillary so much time at the convention and the roll call vote might be his undoing. I’ve got plenty of popcorn on hand.
