I'm sorry I should have specified. We've moved on from older times, not necessarily in the direction you would like us to go lol. Second I stated that it was a growing concern for some that it could lead to other controls. Where you see it as paranoia in your opinion to others it could be a very real thing. No offense but just because you view it as paranoia doesn't mean everybody else does.

The difference between ninjas and crazy people is ninjas throw shurikens and spears, crazy people throw tantrums and poop.
It's #2 to automobile deaths...do we also ban driving?
With everything in our society there are those that use these things in a responsible way and people that don't. Our country is one of freedoms. Having a gun to protect ourselves has been a right. A majority of U.S. Citizens feel that way. With freedom comes responsibility. Some people use things irresponsible but that doesn't mean that we take them away.

And that's because there's a lot more people with cars. But at least cars have legitimate commercial and practical purposes. The only one I can think of for a gun is murder and hunting. But in today's age one rarely needs to hunt for their own food.
..I suppose you could say gun shows and sport shooting has some legitimate commercial purpose..but comparative to the impact and utilization of cars that significance is almost null.
We also have restrictions for when, how, and where you can drive for those reasons. Believe me, I'd be one of the first in line supporting stricter driving restrictions.
I would support stricter driving restrictions also. ON the Gun thing you left out a key item...SELF PROTECTION. Think about New Orleans...look at all the lawlessness that came about after Katrina. THe only way people could protect themselves was to have a gun to protect their family and property because the police didn't exist.
Just when I thought the door would shut on this argument and we'd all agree to disagree...
Binks - we don't NEED guns to protect ourselves, we WANT them. And as Americans, we have that right. Of all the murders you cite (by the way, not a good idea to use '2005' and 'current' in the same sentence), over 30,000, I wonder how many were killed with ill-gotten firearms? Most, I assume. From there, I deduct that criminals will STILL have firearms and will STILL commit crimes with them even if guns are banned.
I'm just not quite as trusting of my government as you must be of yours. Because I've lived a decent amount of years with a few "inalienable rights", I don't care to give them up without a fight.
This might be over-simplication, but my sister seldom carries her cell phone with her while she's away from home. I don't leave home without mine, in fact, it's not far from where I am in the house. She doesn't feel the need. I do. Does that make me wacky or wrong? Not really, just different.
When the goin' gets tough, the tough go shoppin'!![]()
Okay. I can see that. Merely a quick-fix. If we're EVER at a point in ANY part of the US where it is necessary to have a gun for personal protection than we have bigger issues than just 'where's the closest pawn shop?'...I would support stricter driving restrictions also. ON the Gun thing you left out a key item...SELF PROTECTION. Think about New Orleans...look at all the lawlessness that came about after Katrina. THe only way people could protect themselves was to have a gun to protect their family and property because the police didn't exist.
Katrina was a huge faux-pas. There's my thousands of dollars and hours of coursework at good use. :)
You can't shoot anyone with the cell phone though. :P
I suppose you could try. Makes me think of the Kids in the Hall skit where the guys are crushing each other's heads with their thumbs and fingers.

A gun is designed to kill or injure - a car isn't - big difference!
If you need a gun "to protect yourself" then I suggest you look at the society you've created and live in, there are obviously major problems that need addressing - the 260+million guns out there would be a good starting point!
Just because I can take my sheep across London Bridge on a Thursday doesn't mean to say I want to, or that if I don't exercise my right to do so, the government is going to suppress other freedoms of mine!
Binky Bainbridge
I HAVE 470 friends in the UK that do not think like binky about guns. in fact up until about the time binky was probably born, englishmen were required to own guns for the common defense. if the hood coming through my door is only armed with a knife then i wouldn't NEED a gun. however i seldom feel that motivated after being woke up and like INDY i'd rather just say HIYAH YOUR A$$ and pop him. less effort on my part and only one mess to clean up. as far as have we evolved beyond the need for guns i don't human nature has changed much in the last two centuries.
actually binky sounds like some union organizer for the botherhood of hoodlums and punks trying to keep the overhead down. god forbid they have to spend a thousand on the black market for a cheap handgun when in an unarmed society all they need is a tire iron.
also binky a gun is NOT designed to kill or injure. a gun is simply a tool designed to propell a projectile or projectiles down range to a certain point. more rounds have been fired at inamimate targets than ever fired at animated ones.
