I HAVE 470 friends in the UK that do not think like binky about guns.

Surprise, surprise, every country has its homicidal manics! perhaps you'd be good enough to provide us with the details of these people, they certainly need watching. All I can say gadwall is that the picture you paint of the US reminds me so much of the Wild West! It must be the most dangerous country to live in, to warrant so many guns! 84 deaths a day, my God!

Tell that to the millions that have been killed or maimed in WW1, WW2, Vietnam, Northern Ireland, Iraq, and many, many other places!
Next you're going to tell me that a gun is designed to whisk milk-shakes!

..Binks - we don't NEED guns to protect ourselves, we WANT them. And as Americans, we have that right. Of all the murders you cite (by the way, not a good idea to use '2005' and 'current' in the same sentence), over 30,000, I wonder how many were killed with ill-gotten firearms? Most, I assume. From there, I deduct that criminals will STILL have firearms and will STILL commit crimes with them even if guns are banned.....

Those numbers are not all murders. 55% are suicides. There is no evidence that gun control laws and lack of a firearm decreases the total number of suicides. It only shifts the numbers to another method.

Homicides are about 40% and include drug and gang related criminals shooting each other. Those numbers are not usually separated from criminal killings of innocents.

Accidents have been in a steady decline for about 70 years. Accidents and lawful police shootings account for the remaining 5%.

Weigh that against the estimated 2 million times every year that a firearm is used in self-defense.
