So after all the controversy, which bank does everyone recommend in DC? We are currently holding accounts at both BOA and Bank of the West. The one at Bank of the West is a rarely used account so we haven't had any issues thus far. I thought BOA was treating us well. Then again, we have only had the checking/savings there for a year.

I was with the Credit union, from the time I was 4 or so, and still have my account. Parents opened it of course, but I took it over when I turned 18. Never had any problems with them. The only problem might come in when you're out of town, and need an atm. They don't charge you, but of course the ATM owner does. The overdraft protection was nice. Still get charged a 17 dollar NSF fee, but it won't be returned to the merchant so they can charge you another 30. But, with BOA and CUDC, I've not had any problems with either.
