Its always been preached that Jesus was poor. I think the point is, its ok to be rich however you do need to be intune with the needs of others and conduct yourself accordingly.

Was Jesus rich?: 'Kings brought him gold and he travelled with a treasurer'

The patriarchs of the old testament were not hurting for riches.

I am still researching Olsteen to check on what his charitable programs are. I certainly believe that churches should make sure the poor are taken care of...There should be no homeless in America. The super mega churches could help take the burden off the taxpayers. And them not paying taxes, I don't understand.

Why should their not be homeless people in America? I thought this was a free country? SOME people BELIEVE it or not CHOOSE to be homeless. They can go to shelters and such be they don't like the rules. They can live homeless with no taxes and no rules. Are you going to FORCE these people to have a home?

Poor people actually give a higher percentage of their income to the church than wealthier Americans. Why do you think that is?

The ones that would prefer to have shelter should have help from the great Christian Churches. There is no excuse for it.

Also how about the homeless vets that have been shunned by their families or whatever. I am guessing they wouldn't turn down one of those FIMA trailers that are sitting in storage and rotting away.

Used and Abused
The National Coalition for Homeless
Veterans estimates that on any given
night, 299,321 veterans are homeless.
Approximately 33% of homeless
men are veterans, although
veterans comprise only 23% of the
general adult male population.

The Cause
Two trends are largely responsible
for the rise in homelessness in
recent years: a growing shortage
of affordable rental housing and a
simultaneous increase in poverty.
In most states a minimum-wage
worker would have to work 89
hours each week to afford a
two-bedroom apartment at 30% of
his or her income, which is the
federal definition of affordable
housing (National Low Income
Housing Coalition).

I'm not going to argue a case against homeless vets because that's a travesty. There are MANY programs to help these people.
Homeless Veterans Home
Homeless Programs & Initiatives - Homeless Veterans

They can get guaranteed home loans etc. I don't know why we have so many homeless vets and it's a sad thing when there are so many programs out there not to mention VETS can go to school for free in many states or most have the GI Bill which is over $38,000 for college right now. I don't know why they wouldn't use it to go to school and better themselves. I do understand that some homeless are mentally ill or drug dependent and those should be helped. I believe they could get help at the V.A. There are many mechanisms put in place to help these people yet so many exist...I wonder why.

I've wondered the same thing, Army. Hubby tells me that there was so much drug use, even after Vietnam, among soldiers and so many of them were just completely whacked out that there isn't a 'normal' for them. Families turned on them because they didn't know what else to do. The person they sent to the war wasn't the same person as the one that returned and families didn't know how to handle it. Those boys saw a lot of sh!t - it's a wonder any of them came back even semi-normal. The kids that are having their tours extended in Iraq make me think the same thing. I hope and pray we can take better care of them than we did the Vietnam vets.

From what I know the soldiers returning now are receiving counseling and such. I hope they get what they need.

They will when we get the criminals who perpetrated this abuse on wounded soldiers out of office.

I think that the preacher that calls himself, "THE HIGH PREIST OF THE THE CHURCH OF PAINFUL TRUTH', he is the man and the sermons to follow. I have had plenty of learn'n from this church of the painful truth. I have stopped drinking the pink koooookaid, and wearing my little tin hat.
I have been saved. Didn't cost me much either.

That is the problem. How long does it take to de-program these poor souls, that have went into war, as a very young adult, and been subject to things they have only seen on the media. I don't care how much training they get, there is no way to be prepared for the carnage.

To see for real, humans being blown up, little kids torn apart, think of the senses that are bombarded with horror. Sight, smell, hearing, touching, taste. The emotional damage will take years to break through, if ever.
No wonder they turn to drugs.

I HATE WAR ! AND ESPECIALLY ONE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
