| Dogs Gone Went over to the college pond the other morning to cast a line for a little bit before opening the store. Something seemed different, couldn’t figure out what it was. It was quite, too quite no yips whistles or barks. I looked around no prairie dogs, none zip nada. Holes to their dens were filled in, whole colony virtually wiped out. I knew the college was in the act of poisoning some the holes and one of the maintance guys told me they were talking about bringing in a pro to due wide spread poisoning of the town. Looks like they got ‘er done. Did a tour of the rest of the dog town clear to Comanche road population looked pretty thin. Had a fellow come into the store and tell me he had seen some dead ones laying in the field in front of hobby lobby. He figured they had been poisoned . I know the critters need to be controlled, the dam at the college was in jeopardy from their borrowing, but poisoning almost the whole dog town in front of the public is asinine. This kind of tactic will play right into the hands of peta and the other animal rights groups. They will once again push for the prairie dogs to be listed as endangered under the ESA. Citing the argument that the states can’t be trusted to manage these animals because they allow this sort of incident to happen. Then we will lose all reasonable management of these critters. |

| Yup, poisoning was probably wrong, they should have invited people out for a target practice/shooting gallery weekend!

| Damn little animals made a mess of our back yard too. Hubby finally went to a hardware store, found some bomb stuff and tried valiantly to follow directions (as well as a man can, ya know). The smoke was puffing out of every hole in the yard. But they're gone.

| The dogs up by Hobby Lobby/Walmart, actually are kind of a tourist attraction. I see several people checking them out when I drive past there. They are big, healthy looking dogs too. Maybe the City should develop this area as the "Dodge City Prairie Dog Town"! I'm sure we have some WND funds!! ![]() |

| It is a shame because the prairie dogs were here before dodge was. I use accounts of the prairie dogs to know when travelers on the Santa Fe Trail were in our area. Many accounts talk about camping here and eating the dogs.

I've thought they should do that too. Build a little Wild West replica....tiny saloon, stables, little houses over the holes.....a little casino.....a little events center.....
