| Blackpowder users file complaint By Gale Rose of the Tribune Staff The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is one of 15 game agencies in 15 states that has been named in a civil rights complaint of discrimination against those agencies for not permitting the use of rifle scopes during special muzzleloader deer seasons. The complaint was filed by the North American Muzzleloader Hunting Association and claims that since other firearms including center-fire rifles, handguns and slug-loaded shotguns can use rifle scopes as a sight aid, to deny the use of a rifle scope for muzzleloaders is discrimination due to age, sight disability and segregation, said Toby Bridges, founder of NAMHA in a letter of complaint to Dirk Kempthorne, Secretary of the Interior. | Well, excuse me, but I am a muzzleloader hunter that does not need a scope, nor want one. To me it is a little like the USO suit in Arizona in regard to non-resident big game tags. I do not always agree with the wildlife agencies, but if I have a beef with them, I certainly can air my thoughts and hope to in some way influence their actions without a lawsuit. Just my humble opinion. The Duke |

| Duke, I remember a few years back when there was a movement to keep in-lines out of the muzzleloader season. I wouldn’t want the job of drafting the regulations with so many different opinions out there!

| Highwayman, I hear ya. Technology has really changed the face of muzzleloading. There was likely arguments when the flintlock was replaced with percussion caps. I guess I am still trying to hold on to some "primitive" firearms of yesterday. Here in Kansas the early muzzleloader deer season was designed to give those of us using less fire power than that of a modern centerfire rifle a chance to hunt deer early. I have only taken one buck(and a nice one it was) during the early season. Usually there is so much irrigated corn still in the field that it is difficult to find the bucks. Then when I didn't fill my tag during the early, I was at a disadvantage shooting my muzzle during rifle season when the activity has all the deer really spooky. Back to modern muzzleloaders-----I hardly consider these "primitive" firearms. And changing the subject just a little, I hear we are in for some real changes in deer hunting in Kansas in the next few years, including there only being two deer management units. I haven't seen the details in print, only info from a friend who keeps a close watch on happening within KDW&P. You know we really do have some good hunting opportunities here in Kansas and the seasons are just around the corner. Thanks for starting this thread. The Duke |

| It looks like they're still holding meetings on proposals for deer. http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/hun...through_august
