| I'm with you, NLIRG. No longer do I blame "Marty Ball" - and the current coach can't keep it together, either. Starting to look more and more like the GM has all the power. As long as the players realize that, they don't give a rat's ass about the coach. Not to say some of them aren't playing well, but it takes a team working together to win. I don't see any of the "working together" when I see a dropped pass that was right between the numbers. And I sure don't see much "working together" when the QB gets sacked half a dozen times. Honestly? I see a bunch of guys who are out to make a name for themselves, regardless of what happens to the team. That never works - not in high school, not in college and definitely not in pro sports.
Interestingly enough, our city is being asked to add a dome to the stadium (or just build a new one with a dome) - but Superbowls have been played in the Tundra before without a rolling roof. I don't get it! Or was there some political back-slapping goin on behind the scenes. My thought is that they will try to include all of the metro in this tax mess, as they tried to do with another assanine program. Will Johnson County finally get to buy their tickets along with Jackson County? They say "we'll" make a million off a Super Bowl. Really? Clear out here in Overland Park? I see, maybe, motels raking in the bucks, cuz there aren't enough out by the stadium and they're seedy for the most part anyway. Otherwise, I don't see a lot of money being spent except for food. It's not going to have any more of an effect on our commerce for that weekend than any other convention.
IMHO, they can threaten all they want, but right now is not the time to ask Kansas City to ante up. Carl Peterson is even talking to Kansas officials about moving the stadium to the area out by the Speedway. I think the boy's playing both ends against the middle and that never wins.
The Chiefs, and the Royals for that matter, have taken and taken and taken. They haven't paid for a stadium - they want us to do it for them. They raise ticket prices and parking prices every stinking year. It's time for them to put up or shut up. As far as a Superbowl goes, it's not going to affect me whether it's here or not.
Sorry - got carried away.
